Delhi violence: SC to hear on Mar 4 plea for lodging FIRs over hate speeches

New Delhi, Mar 2 (PTI) The Supreme court on Monday decided to hear on March 4 a plea seeking registration of FIRs against politicians for hate speeches which allegedly led to violence in the national capital.

A bench headed by Chief Justice S A Bobde agreed to hear the plea filed by riots victims.

India: No reasons to refer Article 370 matter to larger seven-judge bench: SC

New Delhi, Mar 2 (PTI) The Supreme Court on Monday said there are no reasons to refer a batch of pleas, challenging the constitutional validity of the Centre's decision to abrogate provisions of Article 370 on August 5 last year, to a larger seven-judge bench.

A five-judge constitution bench headed by Justice N V Ramana pronounced the order.

The apex court had on January 23 reserved its order on the issue of whether the batch of pleas would be referred to a larger seven-judge bench.

India: Permission denied for CAA protest march to Parliament

New Delhi, Mar 2 (PTI) The Delhi police has denied permission for a march from the Ramlila Maidan to the Parliament against the new citizenship law, officials said on Monday.

The Young India Coordination Committee, which comprises members from various students' bodies, had given a call for the march on Tuesday.

Police said the application for permission was submitted in New Delhi and Central police districts, and it was not granted.

India: Cong, BJP members push, shove each other in Lok Sabha

New Delhi, Mar 2 (PTI) BJP and Congress members pushed and shoved each other in Lok Sabha on Monday as opposition parties vehemently protested over the issue of violence in Delhi and demanded resignation of Home Minister Amit Shah.

As soon as the House met at 2 pm, opposition members started raising slogans from the Well against the government.

Delhi minister visits relief camp in riot-hit Mustafabad

New Delhi, Mar 2 (PTI) Delhi minister Gopal Rai visited a relief camp in violence-hit northeast Delhi on Monday and assured people that more such facilities would be opened if needed.

The labour and employment minister visited the relief camp at Mustafabad which has a capacity to accommodate 1,000 people.

Death Toll In Indian Capital Communal Violence Rises To 46

NEW DELHI, Mar 2 (NNN-PTI) – The death toll during the four-day communal violence in the Indian capital city rose to 46 on Sunday, officials said.

“Today (yesterday), three more bodies were recovered from the violence-hit northeast part of the city,” a police official said. “One of the bodies was found in a canal in Gokalpuri and two were recovered from the Bhagirathi Vihar canal.”

According to officials, the death toll by now stands at 46. Over 350 people were also injured in the violence.

India's crude steel production drops 3 pc to 9.3 MT in Jan: Report

New Delhi, Mar 1 (PTI) India's crude steel production registered a decline of 3.26 per cent to 9.288 million tonnes (MT) in January this year, according to World Steel Association (worldsteel).

The country had produced 9.591 MT of crude steel during the corresponding month last year, the global industry body said in its latest report.

Indian Govt ruining economy by 'monumental mismanagement': Cong

New Delhi, Feb 29 (PTI) The Congress on Saturday accused the government of "ruining" the economy by its "monumental mismanagement" and advised the Centre to immediately give money in the hands of the poor by making rural job scheme MGNREGA "need based".

Congress' senior spokesperson Anand Sharma also demanded that the government "honestly" release the numbers of jobs lost and not "mislead" the people.

India: Situation peaceful in riot-hit northeast Delhi

New Delhi, Feb 29 (PTI) The situation in northeast Delhi was peaceful Saturday morning with residents gradually coming to terms with the damage in communal riots in the area earlier this week.

Security personnel have been conducting flag marches and holding regular consultations with locals to assuage their fears. They are also urging residents to not pay attention to rumours on social media and report them to the police.
