New Delhi, Nov 7 (PTI) The Ministry of Home Affairs has initiated disciplinary proceedings against IAS officer Kannan Gopinathan who had submitted his resignation in August protesting what he alleged was the "denial of freedom of expression" to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

New Delhi, Nov 7 (PTI) The Delhi government has demanded more onions from the Centre for distribution in the city, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said on Thursday after a sudden rise in the vegetable's price.

The retail price of onions has risen by 45 per cent in the past week to Rs 80 per kg in the national capital. The rate stood at Rs 55 per kg on October 1, according to official data.

Kolkata, Nov 6 (PTI) Union Minister of State for Agriculture Purushottam Rupala on Wednesday said many banks have been found to be "unwilling" to extend the Centre's kisan credit card (KCC) facility to farmers.

Rupala said farmers should report about such incidents in banks and the government will take necessary action.

New Delhi, Nov 6 (PTI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Secretary Rajendra Kumar Tiwari faced flak from the Supreme Court on Wednesday for failing to come up with an appropriate road map to prevent stubble burning, which is a major source of air pollution in Delhi-NCR.

Tiwari, who was summoned by the apex court, started his submissions before a bench of justices Arun Mishra and Deepak Gupta by telling his name to the court.

New Delhi, Nov 6 (PTI) Deputy Mayor of North Delhi Yogesh Verma on Wednesday said all NDMC schools will have "compulsory" yoga classes to promote health consciousness among students.

He said officials have been directed to create a sports academy in all North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) schools.

"In order to encourage health (awareness) and sports activities in all primary schools of North Delhi Municipal Corporation, they would have compulsory yoga classes," an official statement quoted Verma, who is also the NDMC's Sports Promotion Committee chairman, as saying.

New Delhi, Nov 5 (PTI) The Supreme Court Tuesday asked the four member juvenile justice committee of Jammu and Kashmir High Court to examine afresh allegations of detention of minors by security forces in the state after abrogation of provisions of Article 370.

A bench headed by Justice N V Ramana asked the committee to place its report as expeditiously as possible and posted the hearing for December 3.

New Delhi, Nov 6 (PTI) Delhi's air quality continued to be in the "very poor" category on Wednesday as schools reopened in the national capital.

The air quality index was recorded at 324 on Tuesday morning while last night it was at 309.
