UAE energy chief doubles down on OPEC alliance with Russia

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — The United Arab Emirates’ energy minister doubled down Monday on an oil alliance with Russia that’s helped buoy crude prices to their highest in years as Moscow’s war on Ukraine rattles markets and sends energy and commodity prices soaring.

The minister said Russia, with its 10 million barrels of oil a day, is an important member of the global OPEC+ energy alliance.

Saudi state TV confirms attack in Jiddah ahead of F1 race

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Saudi Arabia’s state TV says there was a “hostile operation” that targeted the Jiddah oil depot, which erupted in flames ahead of a Formula One race there.

The acknowledgment on Friday night comes as Yemen’s Houthi rebels claimed an attack targeting the North Jiddah Bulk Plant near the city’s airport.

Journalists covering practice saw the smoke rise over the city around 5:40 p.m.

UAE, Germany Ink Green Energy Agreements

DUBAI, Mar 22 (NNN-WAM) – The United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Germany, signed agreements on hydrogen research and development, during the visit of the German Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, Robert Habeck, the UAE state news agency announced yesterday.

The agreements were signed between Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and German energy companies, Hydrogenious and Uniper.

Saudi Arabia says it’s not responsible for high oil prices

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Saudi Arabia said on Monday that it “won’t bear any responsibility” for a shortage in global oil supplies after a fierce barrage of attacks by Yemen’s Houthi rebels affected production in the kingdom, the world’s largest oil exporter.

The unusually stark warning marked a departure from the giant oil producer’s typically cautious statements, as Saudi officials remain aware that even their smallest comments can swing the price of oil and rattle global markets.

Yemen rebels launch wide strikes on Saudi sites; no one hurt

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Yemen’s Houthi rebels unleashed a barrage of drone and missile strikes on Saudi Arabia that targeted key facilities including natural gas and desalination plants early Sunday, Saudi state-run media reported, temporarily cutting oil production at one site.

The pre-dawn salvo marked the latest escalation in the rebels’ attacks on the kingdom as the war in Yemen rages into its eighth year and peace talks stall.

UAE leaders, Syrian president discuss cooperation

DUBAI, March 19 (Xinhua) -- Leaders of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) met with visiting Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on Friday in the capital Abu Dhabi, discussing cooperation and issues of common interests, according to UAE's official WAM news agency.

During the meeting, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan stressed that Syria is a fundamental pillar of Arab security, and the UAE is keen to strengthen cooperation with it to achieve the aspirations of the brotherly Syrian people towards stability and development.

U.N. raises only $1.3 bln of over $4 bln sought for Yemen 2022 AID -OCHA head

DUBAI, March 16 (Reuters) - The United Nations received only $1.3 billion in pledges on Wednesday towards a $4.27 billion aid plan this year for war-torn Yemen, where a humanitarian drive had seen funding dry up even before global attention turned to the conflict in Ukraine.

"We hoped for more and it is a disappointment we didn't get pledges from some we thought we might hear from," U.N. aid chief Martin Griffiths told a one-day pledging event co-hosted by Sweden and Switzerland.

UK prime minister in UAE, Saudi Arabia to press for more oil

Iran's foreign minister in Moscow, hopes for Russian support for nuclear deal -ISNA

DUBAI, March 15 (Reuters) - Iran's foreign minister Hossein Amirabdollahian arrived in Moscow on Tuesday and expressed hopes his visit would lead to Russian support for a "good, stable and strong nuclear deal," Iran's semi-official ISNA news agency reported.

Amirabdollahian said Russia had so far supported talks in Vienna to revive a 2015 nuclear deal between Iran and major powers.

The talks are at risk of collapsing after a last-minute Russian demand forced world powers to pause negotiations for an undetermined time, despite having a largely completed text.

UAE: Dubai’s state-owned water, power utility plans public offer

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — The state-owned utility in Dubai announced plans Tuesday to list a sliver of its worth on the emirate’s stock exchange.

The announcement comes as the sheikhdom in the United Arab Emirates tries to revitalize its Dubai Financial Market exchange, which has seen several firms delist amid recent economic woes.

The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority said it would offer 3.25 billion shares on the stock market, which it put as equivalent to 6.5% of its overall worth. It did not provide an initial price for the shares.
