06 April 2022; MEMO: Egypt's former presidential candidate and leader of the Strong Egypt Party has been assaulted in his prison cell, according to a Facebook post written by his family.

According to the post, Aboul Fotouh was attacked by guards after trying to file a complaint about why he was refused family visits.

06 April 2022; MEMO: Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi yesterday announced that his country's wheat stock for domestic consumption was "sufficient for the next four months."

"Egypt's total wheat trade amounts to 18 million tonnes annually on average," Al-Sisi told reporters, adding that around two million tonnes are being "lost annually as a result of storage-related reasons."

30 March 2022; MEMO: Egypt's Suez Canal Authority (SCA) yesterday raised its toll fees for vessels passing through the waterway due to the impact of Russia's war in Ukraine.

SCA chairman Osama Rabie told reporters that the increases will be imposed on "all types of ship" using the canal. The increases will amount to between 5 and 20 per cent. "Traffic through the canal has been affected by the Russian-Ukrainian conflict," he explained.

CAIRO, March 29 (Xinhua) -- Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi and Qatari Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani on Tuesday discussed means of promoting bilateral ties at different levels, and the recent developments in the region, the presidential office said in a statement.

"The Gulf's security is linked with the Egyptian national security," Sisi said, hailing the important role Qatar plays in addressing the challenges facing the Arab world.

CAIRO, Mar 27 (NNN-MENA) – Egypt marked the annual global Earth Hour last night, by turning off lights of a number of landmarks across the country for 60 minutes, including Saladin Citadel, in the capital, Cairo.

“We participate in Earth Hour by simultaneously switching off the lights of Saladin Citadel in Cairo, Qaitbay Citadel in Alexandria, the area of the Unfinished Obelisk in Aswan and the area of Deir el-Bahari temples in Luxor,” said Mostafa Waziri, head of the Supreme Council of Antiquities (SCA), affiliated with the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities.
