Pakistan taken off from FATF's grey list

New Delhi, Oct 21 (PTI) Pakistan has been taken off from the grey list of the FATF, the global watchdog on terror financing and money laundering, four years after the country was put in the infamous categorisation.

Significantly, for the first time, the FATF put Myanmar in the "high risk jurisdictions subject to a call for action", often referred to as the watchdog's black list.

France film about 1961 massacre against Algerian protesters receives award

22 October 2022; MEMO: "Tears of the Seine", an animated short film, has received attention in France and globally, Anadolu News Agency reports.

The film was awarded a bronze medal on Thursday at the Student Oscars in Los Angeles.

It sheds light on the bloody police crackdown on the demonstration by Algerians in Paris on 17 October, 1961, in which hundreds of people were killed on the directives of Maurice Papon, then-in charge of the Paris police.

France: Macron visits Grand Mosque in Paris to mark centenary

20 October 2022; MEMO: French President, Emmanuel Macron, has toured the Grand Mosque of Paris yesterday to mark 100 years of its founding.

Macron was greeted by the Mosque's rector, Chems-Eddine Hafiz, before inspecting an exhibition about the mosque's history. Hafiz was awarded with the insignia of the Legion of Honour by Macron, France's highest civilian honour.

EU to add new Iran sanctions over drone supplies to Russia

PARIS/BRUSSELS, Oct 19 (Reuters) - European Union governments will agree to impose new sanctions on Iranian generals and entities over the use of Iranian-made drones in Russian strikes on Ukraine, four diplomats and a French official said on Wednesday.

Ukraine has reported a spate of Russian attacks using Iranian-made Shahed-136 drones in recent weeks. Iran denies supplying drones to Russia, while the Kremlin has not commented.

France: Macron says 1961 Paris massacre of Algerians was unjustified

The then French Police Commander in Paris, Maurice Papon, issued orders to suppress the protest with violence.

EU ministers to discuss Iran drones to Russia, future sanctions, sources say

PARIS, Oct 14 (Reuters) - European foreign ministers will on Monday discuss the transfer of Iranian drones to Russia and could come to a political agreement on future sanctions related to such activity, two diplomats said on Friday.

Ukraine has reported a spate of Russian attacks using Iranian-made Shahed-136 drones in recent weeks. Iran denies supplying the drones to Russia, while the Kremlin has not commented.

PACE accuses Russia of ‘terrorism’ at initiative of Ukrainian, Estonian delegates

PARIS, October 13. /TASS/: Members of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe on Thursday adopted a resolution on the conflict in Ukraine where they accused Russia of "terrorism," according to a statement on the council’s website.

Of the 612 members of the council, just 100 were in attendance, and 99 of them voted for the inclusion of an amendment that calls Russia a "terrorist regime." One member abstained.

France says Iranian drone transfers to Russia would violate U.N. nuclear deal resolution

PARIS, Oct 13 (Reuters) - France's foreign ministry said on Thursday that any transfer of Iranian drones to Russia would be a violation of the United Nations Security Council resolution that endorsed the 2015 nuclear accord between Iran and world powers.

Three drones operated by Russian forces attacked the small town of Makariv, west of Ukraine's capital, early on Thursday, with officials saying that critical infrastructure facilities were struck by what they said were Iranian-made suicide drones.
