Germany's Scholz says Ukraine must help mend ties after president visit debacle

BERLIN, May 4 (Reuters) - Chancellor Olaf Scholz urged Ukraine on Wednesday to help unblock an embarrassing diplomatic impasse, after the German president was stopped from visiting Kyiv amid disquiet over his past support of rapprochement with Russia.

Ukraine's ambassador to Germany has called Scholz an "offended liver sausage" for refusing to visit the country before President Frank-Walter Steinmeier is welcomed there.

EU to terminate Russian coal import in summer - Scholz

NEW DELHI, May 2. /TASS/. The European Union will stop importing Russian coal in summer and will do away with Russian oil by the end of 2022, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said in an interview with The Indian Express newspaper published on Monday.

The European Union has adopted, along with its transatlantic partners, "unprecedented sanctions against the Russian Federation," the Chancellor said. "Many countries have joined these sanctions, even if this necessarily implies economic costs for ourselves," he noted.

Germany supports EU embargo on oil imports from Russia

Germany considers sending howitzers to Ukraine - security source

BERLIN, April 29 (Reuters) - Germany is considering sending long-ranged howitzers to Ukraine, a security source told Reuters on Friday, confirming a report published by Welt am Sonntag newspaper only days after Berlin first decided to supply heavy weapons to Kyiv.

The move follows warnings by the Kremlin that Western arms supplies to Ukraine posed a threat to the security of the European continent "and provoke instability".

German parliament approves petition to deliver heavy arms to Ukraine

BERLIN, April 28 (Reuters) - Germany's Bundestag lower house of parliament on Thursday overwhelmingly approved a petition on support for Ukraine backing the delivery of weapons including heavy arms to the country to help it fend off Russian attacks.

"Alongside the broad economic isolation and decoupling of Russia from international markets, the most important and effective means to stop the Russian invasion is to intensify and speed up the delivery of effective weapons and complex systems including heavy arms," the petition read.

Report: Germany top buyer of Russian energy since war began

A study published by the Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air calculates that Russia has earned 63 billion euros ($66.5 billion) from fossil fuel exports since Feb. 24, the date Russian troops attacked Ukraine.

Germany displaces Afghan refugees to make way for Ukrainians
