India: Guj lockdown: Over 400 detained for violations, says DGP

Ahmedabad, Mar 24 (PTI) The Gujarat police has detained 426 people in the last 24 hours for violating lockdown rules in force in the state to combat the novel coronavirus outbreak, a senior official said on Tuesday.

They include those who came out despite being advised home quarantine, state Director General of Police Shivanand Jha said.

India: Cop, driver held for raping woman, extorting money in Guj

Vadodara, Mar 15 (PTI) A constable on duty in a police control room (PCR) van and its driver were arrested for allegedly raping a woman and threatening and extorting money from her boyfriend on Gotri canal road in Vadodara on Saturday night, police said.

The constable raped the woman after he sent her boyfriend with the van's driver to get bribe money, said a Lakshmipura police station official.

India: Man held for raping seven-year-old in Gujarat

Veraval (Guj), Mar 11 (PTI) A 55-year-old man was arrested for allegedly raping a seven-year-old girl in Gujarat's Gir Somnath district, police said on Wednesday.

The police on Monday arrested Bhikhabhai Sidi for allegedly raping the minor who was visiting a relative at Chhachhar village with her mother, an official from Talala police station said.

India: Over 2,700 registered cases of rape in Guj

Gandhinagar, Mar 11 (PTI) Over 2,700 cases of rape, were registered in different parts of Gujarat in the last two years, the BJP government in the state told the Legislative Assembly on Wednesday.

As many as 2,723 cases of rape and gang-rape were registered in two years, which comes to around three to four such cases everyday, revealed the data shared by the Gujarat government during the Question Hour of the Assembly session today.

India: Teen girl raped by tantrik, associate in Gujarat's Patan

Patan, Mar 7 (PTI) A minor girl was raped allegedly by a tantrik and his associate while she was being "treated" on the request of her kin, police in Patan in Gujarat said on Saturday.

The rape took place in the accused's ashram on Friday night in Sardapura village in Radhanpura taluka, an official said.

India: 8 dead, 22 injured in bus-tanker-jeep collision in Gujarat

Songadh (Guj), Mar 2 (PTI) Eight people were killed and 22 others injured on Monday in a collision involving a state transport bus, a tanker and a jeep here in Gujarat's Tapi district, police said.

The multi-vehicle collision took place on the National Highway-53 near Pokhran village under Songadh taluka in the afternoon, Deputy Superintendent of Police R L Mavani said.

India: Over 3.8 lakh children malnourished in Gujarat: Govt

Gandhinagar, Feb 27 (PTI) More than 3.8 lakh children in Gujarat were malnourished, indicating a sharp increase of over 2.41 lakh in their number since July last year, the state government informed the Assembly on Thursday.

Responding to a set of questions raised by Congress MLAs during Question Hour, Vibhavari Dave, Minister of State for Women and Child Development, informed the house that there were a total of 3,83,840 malnourished children in the state.

India: Entry gate at Motera stadium collapses ahead of Trump's visit

Ahmedabad, Feb 23 (PTI) A day before US President Donald Trump's visit to Ahmedabad, a makeshift VVIP entry gate erected outside the newly-built cricket stadium in Motera area here collapsed due to gusty winds on Sunday morning, an official said.

The entire incident was recorded by a bystander and aired on local television channels.

India: US Prez's visit: Forth cargo plane lands at Ahd airport

Ahmedabad, Feb 22 (PTI) Another cargo plane of the US Air Force landed at the Ahmedabad international airport on Saturday ahead of the February 24 visit of US President Donald Trump to the city.

The C-17 Globemaster cargo plane, fourth in the last few days, carried security equipment and a special vehicle that is likely to be part of Trump's convoy, sources said.

India: Not 70 lakh, but one lakh to attend Trump roadshow

Ahmedabad, Feb 20 (PTI) Nearly one lakh people are expected to line up along the 22-km route of the roadshow of US President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Ahmedabad on February 24, officials said on Thursday.

The number is much less than what the US president has been claiming.

In a recent video, Trump said, "7 million (70 lakh)" people will be there on the roadshow route.
