India: Ensure strict implementation of rural lockdown: Guj DGP

Ahmedabad, Apr 7 (PTI) Police officers in Gujarat have been directed to strictly enforce the lockdown in rural areas of the state to check the spread of coronavirus.

Issuing a circular on Wednesday, state Director General of Police (DGP) Shivanand Jha has directed district SPs, Range IGs and police commissioners to ensure that no one comes in or go out of villages.

India: 14 new COVID-19 cases in Guj; tally jumps to 122

Ahmedabad, Apr 5 (PTI) The number of coronavirus cases in Gujarat has jumped to 122 with 14 new patients being reported from the state, an official said on Sunday.

Out of the 14 new cases, 10 have a direct or indirect link to the religious congregation organised by Tablighi Jamaat at Nizamuddin in Delhi last month, Principal Secretary (Health) Jayanti Ravi said.

Nivea India starts manufacturing hand sanitisers; to be distributed 'free of cost'

New Delhi, Apr 3 (PTI) Personal grooming products maker Nivea India on Friday said it has started production of hand sanitisers from its skincare manufacturing plants in collaboration with its key partners.

The company said its plant at Sanand in Gujarat which originally manufactures skincare products for the India market has begun production of alcohol-based hand sanitisers, and it will be shifting part of its production towards the making of sanitisers at the plant.

India: 10 more COVID-19 cases in Gujarat; total climbs to 105

Ahmedabad, Apr 4 (PTI) As 10 more persons tested positive for coronavirus in Gujarat on Saturday, the state tally of COVID-19 patients jumped to 105, an official said.

Of these 10 new patients, five are from Ahmedabad, two each from Gandhinagar and Bhavnagar and one from Patan, Principal Secretary (Health) Jayanthi Ravi said.

India: Pay wages to workers or face jail: Guj govt to employers

Ahmedabad, Apr 2 (PTI) The Gujarat government on Thursday warned the factory owners and other employers in the state that they will have to face a jail term of one year if they lay off any of their workers or staffers during the lockdown period, officials said.

A notification to this effect was issued on Thursday to safeguard 18 lakh factory workers, 25 lakh workers of registered contractors and over 12 lakh persons working in shops and other commercial establishments, Secretary in the Chief Minister's Office (CMO), Ashwani Kumar, said.

India: COVID-19 patient dies in Vadodara; Guj toll reaches 7

Ahmedabad, Apr 2 (PTI) A 52-year-old man died of coronavirus in Vadodara early Thursday morning, taking the COVID-19 toll in Gujarat to seven, an official said.

The man was admitted to Sir Sayajirao General (SSG) Hospital in Vadodara on March 19 after he fell ill on return from Sri Lanka. He later tested positive for coronavirus, principal secretary (health) Jayanti Ravi told reporters in Gandhinagar.

There are 87 coronavirus cases in the state so far.

India: Gujarat reports 69 coronavirus cases, six deaths

Ahmedabad, Mar 30 (PTI) The number of deaths due to coronavirus in Gujarat has gone up to six after one more patient succumbed to the infection, a senior health official said on Monday.

Besides, the number COVID-19 cases in the state went up to 69 as six more people tested positive for the deadly virus on Monday, principal secretary (health) Jayanti Ravi said.

India: Coronavirus patient dies in Gujarat

Ahmedabad, Mar 28 (PTI) A 46-year-old woman who had coronavirus infection died at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Hospital here on Saturday afternoon, taking the number of COVID-19 patients who have died in Gujarat to four, authorities said.

The woman had tested positive for the virus on March 26 and had been put on ventilator, the hospital said in a statement.

India: Guj govt to provide food items free to 60 lakh poor families

Ahmedabad, Mar 25 (PTI) The Gujarat government will provide food items like wheat, rice, pulses and sugar free of cost to around 60 lakh ration card holding families through fair price shops starting April 1, Chief Minister Vijay Rupani said on Wednesday.

The scheme is to ensure that the poor, who depend on daily wages for livelihood, are not affected by the 21-day nationwide lockdown due to the coronavirus outbreak and do not have to purchase food items for the month of April, he said after a meeting in Gandhinagar.

India: Over 5,500 in Surat asked to observe home isolation

Surat, Mar 25 (PTI) Over 5,500 persons, mostly textile traders and their employees, were asked to stay in home quarantine on Wednesday after a 62-year-old man who worked in a textile market tested positive for coronavirus.

All those who came in contact with the COVID-19 patient could have been infected, and therefore they were asked to isolate themselves at home for 14 days, said Municipal Commissioner Banchhanidhi Pani.
