India likely to miss 2030 deadline for over half of health SDGs: Lancet study

New Delhi, Feb 27 (PTI) India is not on target for over 50 per cent of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) indicators related to health and social determinants of health seven years before the 2030 deadline, according to a study published in The Lancet journal.

Japan's monthly COVID-19 deaths cross 10,000 mark for 1st time

29 Jan 2023; AA: Japan logged 252 new coronavirus deaths over the past 24 hours, exceeding the monthly figure of 10,000 for the first time, the Health Ministry said on Sunday.

The new fatalities have brought the death toll for January to 10,124, Kyodo News agency reported, citing a tally based on prefectural reports.

Previously, over 7,600 people died in December, the highest monthly total at that time.

The nation has seen a rapid surge in coronavirus deaths since November.

Beijing and Tianjin scrap COVID-19 tests for public transport

Beijing, Dec 3 (PTI) Several Chinese cities like Beijing, Tianjin, Chengdu and Shenzhen on Saturday scrapped the mandatory COVID-19 tests for public transport, as authorities softened their stance on the stringent Zero-COVID policy amid a spate of anti-government protests across the country.

Residents in Chengdu and Guangzhou no longer require to show Covid test results when entering most public places, the official media reported on Saturday.

Egypt sends 27 tons of cholera vaccines to Lebanon

9 Nov 2022; MEMO: An Egyptian plane carrying 27 tons of medical supplies and vaccines arrived in Beirut on Wednesday as part of efforts to combat a cholera outbreak in Lebanon, Anadolu News Agency reports.

"The supplies will be distributed to hospitals where cholera patients are being treated," Health Minister, Firas Al-Abiad, told a press conference.

Egyptian Ambassador, Yasser Alawi, said the aid plane follows talks between President Abdel-Fattah Al-Sisi and Lebanon's caretaker Prime Minister, Najib Mikati.

India: Dengue situation in Lucknow very pitiable: High Court

Lucknow, Nov 4 (PTI) The Allahabad High Court on Friday expressed surprise that though the ground reality related to dengue is very pitiable in the city, everything is being said to be fine in government records.

The Lucknow bench of the high court said that if it had its own agency, it would have definitely cross checked the government data, which stressed that the situation is under control and there is no lack of beds and other facilities in the government hospitals to check vector borne diseases in the capital.
