Dengue cases in Delhi jump to 2,146

New Delhi, Nov 19 (PTI) Over 270 fresh cases of dengue have been reported over the last one week in the national capital, taking the total number of people diagnosed with the vector-borne disease this season to 2,146, according to a municipal report released Monday.

Of the total number of cases, 551 were reported this month till November 17.

As many as 1,114 cases were reported in October only, the report said.

Also, 450 cases of malaria and 150 of chikungunya have been reported this season, it said.

Dengue cases rise to 1,875 in Delhi

New Delhi, Nov 12 (PTI) Nearly 280 fresh cases of dengue have been reported over the last one week in the national capital, taking the total number of people diagnosed with the vector-borne disease this season to 1,875, a municipal report released Monday said.

According to the report, there has been one death due to dengue this year till November 10.

At least 1,114 cases were reported in October only.

Also, 450 cases of malaria and 141 of chikungunya have been reported this season till November 10 the report said.

More than 600 Mohalla Clinics to come up in Delhi

New Delhi, Nov 12 (PTI) The Delhi government will come up with over 600 Mohalla Clinics, with close to half of it to be opened at schools run by it, an official source said.

In a review meeting on the Mohalla Clinic project on Monday, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal directed the officials to ensure adequate availability of medicines and staff in the state-run clinics and hospitals, the government source said.

Congo ministry says Ebola outbreak worst in nation’s history

KINSHASA, Congo (AP) — Congo’s latest Ebola outbreak is the worst in the country’s recorded history with 319 confirmed and probable cases, the health ministry said.

The deadly virus has killed about 198 people since the outbreak was declared Aug. 1 in the volatile east, the ministry said. Those dead include 163 confirmed Ebola cases, with 35 probable deaths. Nearly 100 people have survived Ebola.

This is Congo’s 10th outbreak since 1976, when the hemorrhagic fever was first identified in Yambuku, in the Equateur province, the ministry said.

Tourists cutting short Delhi visit, say air quality bad

New Delhi, Nov 5 (PTI) Tourists, including foreigners, visiting Delhi ahead of Diwali on Monday complained of having a tough time due to increasing air pollution as a thick haze engulfed the city, with some even cutting short their trips citing health concerns.

Some of them said pollution masks were proving ineffective as the air quality has turned "severe", forcing them to visit hospitals to seek treatment for breathlessness, allergy and irritation.

Emily, from Amsterdam, said she was cutting short her visit to Delhi due to the deteriorating air quality.

Delhi records season's worst air quality ahead of Diwali

New Delhi, Nov 5 (PTI) Delhi recorded its worst air quality of the season on Monday, with the pollution levels inching towards 'severe plus emergency' category due to a change in wind direction and rampant stubble burning in neighbouring states.

The PM2.5 (particles in the air with a diameter of less than 2.5 micrometres) and PM10 concentrations touched 365 and 503 respectively, touching the 'severe-plus emergency' category, according to Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data.

India: Dead fish at Mathura ghats raise pollution alarm

Mathura/Agra Nov 4 (PTI): Environment activists and local authorities are alarmed as dead fish have been found floating in the Yamuna at Mathura, apparently due to the discharge of toxic waste into the river.

Thousands of dead fish have been seen since Thursday, they said.

People who had gone to the ghats for a bath were the first to spot them that day, an activist said.

Delhi's air quality improves, comes down to 'poor' category

New Delhi, Nov 4 (PTI) Delhi's air quality continued to improve on Sunday with the pollution level coming down to 'poor' category after oscillating between 'very poor' and 'severe' for nearly three weeks, authorities said.

The overall Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 231 on Sunday which falls in 'poor' category.

On Friday, the AQI was recorded at 370, which came down to 336 on Saturday, according to data of the Central Pollution Control Board.

India: Drive against adulterated foods

KANPUR: In view of the approaching Diwali festival, the Food safety department launched a drive against the sale of adulterated items in city areas.

As many as seven teams conducted raids on the sweet shops and the eateries respectively. There were also collected samples in the course of the drive. Besides, as many as 65 kgs of khoya were also trashed at Ghantaghar area.
