India: 'Corona mata' (Corona mother) temple built at UP village, demolished

Pratapgarh (UP), Jun 12 (PTI) People at Juhi Shukulpur village here built a "corona mata" temple, seeking divine grace to stay clear of the infection. However, the temple built on June 7 was demolished on Friday night.

Villagers alleged that it was demolished by police, which denied the charge, saying it was constructed on a disputed site and one of the parties involved in the dispute razed it.

Villagers said the temple was constructed five days ago by Lokesh Kumar Srivastava with the help of donations from local residents.

India: 65 kids test coronavirus positive in Maha over last 4 days

Osmanabad, Jun 12 (PTI) At least 65 children have tested positive for coronavirus in Osmanabad district of Maharashtra over the last four days, as per the data shared by the district civil hospital.

As per the data, the COVID-19 positivity rate and fatality rate are falling in the Osmanabad district but COVID-19 patients in the age group of 0 to 18 years are found in the district for the first time.

Afghanistan shuts all schools amid surging COVID-19 infections, deaths

12 June 2021; AA: Afghanistan on Saturday announced the nationwide closure of all educational institutions amid surging coronavirus infections and deaths in the country.

According to the Health Ministry, all kindergartners, high schools as well as universities and religious seminars would remain closed for at least two more weeks as the county's fragile health system grapples with mounting third wave of the pandemic.

New Delhi, Jun 12 (PTI) Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday cautioned that the chances of the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic were quite real, while he asserted that his government was preparing on a "war-footing" to combat it.

Indications are coming from the UK on the fear of the third wave. Cases are rising there, despite 45 per cent of vaccination. So, we cannot afford to sit idle, he said.

India: COVID-19 vaccination for Pakistani Hindu migrants begins in Jodhpur

Jodhpur, Jun 11 (PTI) The district authorities on Friday started COVID-19 vaccination for Pakistani Hindu migrants who do not have Indian identity documents, officials said.

The migrants were given jabs on the basis of their Pakistani passports, they said.

Around 100 migrants got the much-awaited vaccine jab at one of the camps on the first day of the exercise started for them in the district, the officials said.

India: Delhi gets 28,900 more Covaxin doses for 18-44 age group

New Delhi, Jun 10 (PTI) Delhi received 28,900 more doses of Covaxin on Wednesday for the 18-44 age group and the stock is enough to cover those eligible for the second dose in the next four days, AAP MLA Atishi said on Thursday.

At present, Delhi has more than 50,110 doses of Covaxin in stock for this category, she said.

There are 1.24 lakh doses of Covishield available for this age group and these can last up to eight days, Atishi said.

She said 47,978 doses of vaccine were administered in Delhi on Wednesday.

India: Asian Games gold-winning boxer Dingko Singh dies of post Covid complecations

New Delhi, Jun 10 (PTI) Asian Games gold medal-winning former boxer Dingko Singh, who inspired a generation of Indian pugilists with his swashbuckling ring craft and flamboyant personality, died on Thursday after a long battle with liver cancer.

He was 42 and had been fighting the disease since 2017. He is survived by his wife Babai Ngangom, a son and a daughter.

During his battle with cancer, the former bantamweight (54kg) boxer's health woes were compounded by a bout of jaundice and COVID-19 last year.

Iran joins coronavirus vaccine producing countrie

Tehran, June 9, IRNA - Deputy Health Minister Iraj Harirchi said in the launching ceremony of the second phase of clinical test for Fakhra COVID-19 vaccine on Wednesday that Iran has joined the few countries that can produce– such coronavirus vaccines.

Harirchi said that only a handful of countries in the world are capable of producing COVID-19 vaccines and Iran has joined this league by producing several vaccines.

9th consignment of Russian COVID-19 vaccines delivered to Iran Embassy in Moscow

Moscow, June 9, IRNA – The 9th batch of Russian Corona vaccine, Sputnik V, including 100,000 doses, was delivered to the Iranian Embassy in Moscow on Wednesday and will be forwarded to Tehran on Thursday.

The vaccines will be sent to Tehran via the Iranian airline of Mahan on Thursday.

So far 900,000 doses of Sputnik V vaccines have been delivered to Iran.
