India: Delhi woman shot dead by husband for dowry

New Delhi, Dec 28 (PTI) A 25-year-old woman was shot dead allegedly by her husband over dowry demand in south-west Delhi's Kapashera area, police said on Saturday.

The incident took place on Wednesday morning and the body was thrown from the second floor of a building to make it look like a case of suicide, they said.

Police received information at around 5.40 am that a woman had jumped from the second floor of her residence in Samalkha village. She was then rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors declared her brought dead, a senior officer said.

India: Mayawati suspends BSP MLA for supporting CAA

Bhopal, Dec 29 (PTI) Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati on Sunday suspended party MLA Rama Bai for supporting the Citizenship (Amendment) Act.

Mayawati has been strongly criticising the new law, which seeks to grant citizenship to non-Muslim refugees who came to India before December 31, 2014, to escape religious persecution in Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan.

India: Odisha government launches e-certificate project

Bhubaneswar, Dec 29 (PTI) The Odisha government has launched a unique "people-friendly" project to provide official documents such as income, residence and similar other certificates online without any fees.

Without visiting government offices, people can now apply for these certificates online under the e-certificate project launched by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for the Revenue and Disaster Management department on Saturday as part of the 5T model of governance.

India: Protest march in Pune against new Citizenship Act, NRC

Pune, Dec 29 (PTI) Hundreds of people took out a march in Maharashtra's Pune city on Sunday to protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act and National Register of Citizens.

The protesters shouted slogans against the new citizenship law and held placards with messages like "We reject Modi Made Holocaust", "We Reject CAA and NRC", "Stop dividing India" and "Boycott CAA and NRC".

Cold Wave Continues To Intensify In India, Red Warning Issued

NEW DELHI, Dec 29 (NNN-PTI) – India Meteorological Department (IMD), today (Sunday), issued a red-coded warning, for parts of the country, as a cold wave continues to sweep across the country.

“Red-code warning was issued for Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, today,” IMD said. “Red colour warning does not mean Red Alert, instead it means take action.”

Officials said, an IMD red warning means “extreme weather conditions.”

India: Exports to rebound in 2020 but growth to remain subdued

New Delhi, Dec 28 (PTI) The continuous contraction in India's exports is likely to stop next year but the rate of growth will be subdued on account of the uncertain global trade situation due to rising protectionism.

Commerce Secretary Anup Wadhawan said the current slowdown in exports is mainly due to a decline in petroleum products, which constitute 13.42 per cent of overall outward shipments.

India: Priyanka arrives in Lucknow on two-day visit

Lucknow, Dec 27 (PTI) Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra arrived here on Friday to participate in the foundation day function of the party on Saturday.

On a two-day visit, she is expected to attend a meeting of the party's advisory council and strategy group besides addressing the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) to revamp the state unit after a number of leaders were recently expelled.

India: MP anti-CAA violence: 2 senior Jabalpur cops transferred

Jabalpur (MP), Dec 27 (PTI) Two senior Jabalpur police officials were transferred by the Madhya Pradesh Home department in connection with the violence that took place there on December 20 during anti-Citizenship Amendment Act protests, officials said on Friday.

The state chief of a lesser-known political outfit was also booked for the violence, police said.
