Kashmiri killed by Indian security forces in Sopore area of Indian administered Kashmir

Srinagar, July 18: A Kashmiri has been killed in an alleged encounter with Indian security forces in Sopore area of Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla district of Indian administered Kashmir, an Indian official said.

The Indian security forces' spokesperson alleged that a cordon and search operation was underway in the area following information about presence of Kashmiri separatist.

India: Bill to deal with cow vigilantism tabled in MP assembly

Bhopal, Jul 17 (PTI) The Congress government in Madhya Pradesh Wednesday tabled a bill in the assembly that seeks to amend a BJP-era law to prescribe jail terms for violence in the name of cow vigilantism and ease bovine transportation.

Animal Husbandry Minister Lakhan Singh Yadav tabled the Madhya Pradesh Cow Progeny Slaughter Prevention (Amendment) Bill, 2019, in the ongoing monsoon session of the assembly.

India: Court summons Arvind Kejriwal for re-tweeting a video

New Delhi, Jul 17 (PTI) A Delhi court Wednesday summoned Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in a criminal complaint of the founder of social media page, 'I Support Narendra Modi', who alleged that the AAP leader re-tweeted a defamatory video by YouTuber Dhruv Rathee in May 2018.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Samar Vishal directed Kejriwal to appear before the court on August 7.

Absconding Indian rapist extradited from Saudi Arabia

Kollam (KER), Jul 17 (PTI) A Keralite who had allegedly raped a minor girl two years ago and fled to Saudi Arabia, was nabbed with Interpol's help three weeks ago and brought here from Riyadh by a Kerala police team early Wednesday.

Sunil Kumar, 38, had raped the 13-year-old girl, belonging to the scheduled caste community, in 2017 when he had come to Kerala from the Middle East for a holiday, police said.

India: Russia to deliver S-400 missiles by April, 2023

New Delhi, Jul 17 (PTI) Russia is likely to deliver the S-400 missile systems to India by April 2023, the government said Wednesday.

Asked about the US pressure to scrap the missile deal with Russia, the government said it takes sovereign decisions based on security challenges facing the country.

"A contract has been signed on October 5, 2018 for delivery of S-400 system from Russia. The deliveries are likely to be made by April, 2023," Sripad Naik, Minister of State for Defence, said.

India: Two get life imprisonment for burning woman alive

Palghar, Jul 18 (PTI) A court here in Maharashtra has awarded life imprisonment to a 37-year-old man and his friend for killing a woman in 2017.

Additional Sessions Judge A U Kadam in her order on Tuesday convicted the accused - Manoj Chavan and his friend Baburao Yesankar (47) - both residents of Vasai area here, under Indian Penal Code Section 302 (murder) and also imposed a fine of Rs 1,000 each on them.

India: Clash in UP; toll climbs to 10

Sonbhadra, Jul 18 (PTI) Twenty-four people have been arrested in connection with Wednesday's clash over a land dispute in Sonbhadra, even as the death toll in the incident rose to 10 with one more person succumbing to injuries, officials said on Thursday.

18 others were injured when a village head and his supporters allegedly opened fire on a rival group, leading to the clash. The deceased belonged to the Gond tribe.

Superintendent of Police S T Patil said 24 persons have been arrested and attempts are on to nab others.

Pakistan should immediately release Jadhav: EAM Jaishankar

New Delhi, Jul 18 (PTI) A day after the World Court ordered Pakistan to review death penalty to Kulbhushan Jadhav, India Thursday asked Pakistan to release the former Navy officer forthwith and vowed to vigorously continue efforts to bring him back.

Making a statement in both houses of Parliament on the judgement by the International Court of Justice, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said, "Pakistan was found to have deprived India of the right to communicate with Jadhav, have access to him, visit him in detention and arrange his legal representation."
