India: Om Birla is NDA's nominee for LS speaker's post

New Delhi, Jun 18; PTI/GANASHAKTI: Two-time BJP MP Om Birla was named NDA's nominee for Lok Sabha speaker's post Tuesday.

Once nominated, Birla, who won from Kota-Bundi parliamentary seat in Rajasthan, will easily become the speaker as the National Democratic Alliance has a clear majority in the lower house.

A notice has been given to the Lok Sabha Secretariat by the BJP proposing Birla for the post and bringing a motion for his election. The motion has been backed by all NDA allies, including AIADMK, as well parties like YSR Congress Party and Biju Janata Dal.

India: UP govt to now issue press releases in Sanskrit too

Lucknow Jun 18 (PTI) In a bid to promote Sanskrit, the Uttar Pradesh government will now issue press releases in Sanskrit along with Hindi, English and Urdu, an official said Tuesday.

The first press note in Sanskrit was issued by the state government's Information Department on Monday.

Senior officials of the Information Department said the important speeches of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and government information will be released also in Sanskrit, along with Hindi, English and Urdu.

India: One nation, one election fancy idea of BJP: CPI

Hyderabad, Jun 17 (PTI) One nation, one election is a "fancy idea" of the BJP and it's neither possible nor necessary, said the Communist Party of India.

CPI's national general secretary Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy asked what would happen if some state governments were to fall during their term for one reason or the other.

"What will happen to all these states (where governments fail to complete their term)? there will be by-elections. You cannot deny democratic rights of the people and ask them to wait till the next election," he told PTI.

India: Jilted lover writes 'IS' message on mall posters

Thane, Jun 17 (PTI) A man has been arrested from suburban Vikhroli for allegedly writing messages mentioning terror organisation, the IS, on the posters of a mall, police said Monday.

The accused, Ketan Ghodke, had also mentioned the mobile phone numbers of a woman and a man along with the messages that read: "gazva e hind, Dadar Siddhivinayak boom, Isis is coming slipper cell is activated", said DCP Avinash Ambure.

Siddhivinayak is a famous temple of Lord Ganesh located in Prabhadevi area of Mumbai, which attracts lakhs of devotees.

India: Over 26 pc govt posts vacant in Maharashtra

Mumbai, Jun 17 (PTI) Some 26.6 per cent government posts in the Group A-D categories are lying vacant in Maharashtra, the 2018-19 economic survey tabled in the state Legislature Monday informed.

As on July 1, 2018, sanctioned government service posts in group A, B, C and D were 7.17 lakh and the number of these vacant stood at 1.91 lakh, or 26.6 per cent, the survey stated.

India: Only 80% nullahs cleaned so far, deadline over

Kanpur: Cleaning of nullahs has not completed by June 15 and this has led the Nagar Swasthya Adhikari Dr Ajay Kumar to seek clarification from officials concerned about the incomplete work. 

According to the reports only eighty percent nullahs has been cleaned. All the sanitary inspectors of the six zones  were asked to submit report but they did not comply. The deadline has been passed and the monsoon also is supposed to come soon. In such a precarious situation the possibility of water-logging looms large in city areas. 

India: Muzaffarpur children death toll rises to 103

Patna, Jun 17 (PTI) Six more children died in Bihar's Muzaffarpur district on Monday, taking the toll due to suspected Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES) to 103 and prompting the state government to announce a slew of measures to tackle the situation.

According to a release issued by the district administration, 18 deaths were reported from the Kejriwal hospital and 85 from the Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital (SKMCH), where Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan had visited the patients on Sunday and assured their families of all possible help from the Centre.

India: Suspected IED found near Navi Mumbai school

Mumbai, Jun 17 (PTI) A suspected Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was Monday found near a school in Kalamboli in neighbouring Navi Mumbai, police said.

Police were alerted after a watchman spotted the suspected explosive fitted with electric wiring and an attached battery, kept on a handcart near a gate of New Sudhagad School, an official said.

India: Man stoned to death for demanding repayment in UP

Muzaffarnagar, Jun 18 (PTI) A man was allegedly stoned to death by some people for demanding repayment of the money he had lent, police said Tuesday.

The incident took place on Monday when Aman Shekher, a resident of Khedu Sudiyan village, went to Ram Kumar's home to ask for repayment of his money, they said.

Following an argument between the two, the accused and his family allegedly attacked Shekher with stones, police said.
