India: Ambani security scare: NIA arrests Mumbai police officer Sachin Waze

Mumbai, Mar 13 (PTI) The National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested Mumbai Police officer Sachin Waze Saturday night after questioning him for 12 hours over the recovery of an explosive-laden vehicle near the residence of industrialist Mukesh Ambani, an agency spokesperson said.

Waze was summoned at the agency's Mumbai office at Cumballa Hill in south Mumbai around 11.30 am to record his statement. There was no official update on him throughout the day.

India: Fadnavis, Sahasrabuddhe appointed as heads of BJP's think-tank

Mumbai, Mar 13 (PTI) Senior BJP leaders Devendra Fadnavis and Vinay Sahasrabuddhe have been appointed chairman and vice-chairman respectively of the Rambhau Mhalgi Prabodhini on Saturday.

The think-tank-cum-academy for socio-political activists aims to groom "purpose-driven leadership".

India: Karnataka temporarily stops bus service to Maharashtra

Bengaluru, Mar 13 (PTI): The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation on Saturday temporarily suspended its operations to Kolhapur in Maharashtra which has a substantial Kannada population in view of the ongoing border row between the two states, officials said.

A few Maharashtra leaders have been demanding the merger of the regions dominated by Marathi-speaking people in Karnataka, especially Belagavi, which the pro-Kannada organisations have been opposing.

India: BJP booth committee president stabbed to death in Assam

Tinsukia, Mar 13 (PTI) A BJP booth committee president was stabbed to death in Assam's Tinsukia district by one person, who has already been arrested, police said on Saturday.

According to a senior police officer, the incident took place on Friday night at No 1 Doomdooma Nagaon village under Bordumsa police station of the district.

After a minor altercation, one Jay Chandra Gogoi several times stabbed BJP member Deba Gogoi, who died of the injury, police said.

The accused was later arrested and further investigation is on, he added.

India: Cop booked in Maha for raping and duping woman

Nagpur, Mar 13 (PTI) A police inspector from Nagpur in Maharashtra has been booked for allegedly raping a 45-year-old widow and duping her of Rs 4 lakh, an official said on Saturday.

The victim, a resident of Gittikhadan area in the city, became friends with the inspector through social media in 2019, the official said.

The two exchanged their mobile phone numbers and started chatting.

India: Two new IPL teams to be auctioned in May

New Delhi, Mar 13 (PTI) The Indian Premier League (IPL) will be a 10-team affair from 2022 as the BCCI has decided to auction two new teams in the month of May during the final phase of upcoming edition.

The BCCI top brass including president Sourav Ganguly, secretary Jay Shah on Saturday had a meeting on execution of various policy decisions approved by the IPL Governing Council at the start of the year.

India: One held for harassing woman in UP's Muzaffarnagar

Muzaffarnagar, Mar 14 (PTI) A man was arrested for allegedly harassing a 30-year-old woman when she was returning home from a market here, police said on Sunday.

Another accused is at large, they said.

On Saturday evening, the woman was returning home from the market when the two accused, Shubham and Sonu, harassed her in Gandhi Nagar locality under New Mandi police station area, Station House Officer (SHO) Anil Kapervan said.

When the woman opposed the accused, they threatened her, he said.

India: DMK will continue to fight against CAA, says Stalin

Chennai, Mar 14 (PTI) DMK chief M K Stalin on Sunday said his party would continue to urge the union government to scrap the contentious Citizenship Amendment Act and confer citizeship on Sri Lankan Tamils living in refugee camps in India.

In an addendum to the party manifesto unveiled on Saturday, he said DMK had all along opposed the CAA and campaigned against it and he even ran a campaign in Tamil Nadu collecting one crore signatures pressing for scrapping the law.

India: Mamata participates in TMC's march on wheelchair

Kolkata, Mar 14 (PTI) Four days after she was injured and hospitalised during election campaign in Nandigram, TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee Sunday attended her first public event, as she led a road show in Kolkata on a wheelchair.

Accompanied by senior TMC leaders, Banerjee was seen greeting the crowd with folded hands, with security personnel pushing her wheelchair.

India: Ambulance drivers allegedly duping patients

Kanpur: Although there was applied tough measures to check the deviant ways of the ambulance drivers yet they are allegedly once again making money from the hapless patients.

They not only entice them of better treatment at private nursing homes, on lesser amount but also earn enough money in the process.They formulate their own peculiar ways to negotiate with the poor crying patients.

Initiating strict action against them, Dr R B Kamal, principal, Ganesh Shanker Vidyarthi Medical College, had  put a control on their unfair acts. But they have become active now badly.
