India: 3 migran workers onboard Shramik Special trains dead

Kanpur (UP), May 23 (PTI) Three persons onboard separate Shramik Special trains lost their lives due to various ailment, officials said here on Saturday.

"Family members of the deceased said all were suffering from serious ailment. The travel history of all the three deceased passengers was taken, Kanpur District Magistrate Brahma Deo Ram Tiwari said.

Giving details about the deceased, he said Naichinalyu Disang (23), a resident of Nagaland, was going from Delhi to Dimapur.

India: Conjoined twins separated at AIIMS after 24-hour surgery

New Delhi, May 24 (PTI) A pair of conjoined twins from Badaun in Uttar Pradesh who were joined at the hip and lower back have been separated following a 24-hour surgery at the AIIMS here, officials said.

The two-year-old girls had fused pelvis, spinal bones, spinal cord, intestines and shared a common rectum besides having abnormalities of the heart and major blood vessels, a senior doctor said.

India: Dean of medical school in Delhi tests positive for coronavirus

New Delhi, May 24 (PTI) The Dean of the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Medical Sciences at the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital here has tested positive for coronavirus infection.

Dr Rajeev Sood, who is looking after the management of COVID-19 manpower at the hospital, tested positive for the infection on Saturday.

He is now under home isolation and contact tracing has been initiated by hospital authorities.

India: It was wrong to impose lockdown suddenly: Thackeray

Mumbai, May 24 (PTI) Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Sunday said it was wrong to impose the lockdown suddenly and now it cannot be lifted all at once.

Amid the rising number of COVID-19 cases in Maharashtra, Thackeray also said there was a need to be extra cautious during the upcoming monsoon.

It was wrong to impose the lockdown suddenly. It will be equally wrong to lift it in one go. It will be a double whammy for our own people," he said in a televised message.

India: Muslims offer Alvida prayer within closed doors

KANPUR: Lockdown leaves the faithful to offer Alvida prayer at the house. The congregational prayers were not possible owing to the administrative restrictions.

On the last Friday of the holy month of Ramazan, the Muslims offered the month's Final Friday prayer on the neat space available within the house. 

Fear of the Corona has restricted them to observe social distancing. The rule of three persons is suiting the offering of the prayer within the house. As the houses are not quite larger these days, space for prayer is made anyway.

India: Arms and ammunition of Maoists seized in Bihar

Gaya (Bihar), May 23 (PTI) A cache of arms and ammunition belonging to banned outfit CPI (Maoist) has been seized from a village in Bihar's Gaya district, a senior SSB officer said on Saturday.

Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and Bihar Police personnel conducted a raid at Tanti village on Friday night and seized a cache of arms and ammunition and Maoist literature from a brick kiln, SSB's 29th battalion commandant Rajesh Kumar Singh said.

India: WB asks Railways not to send Shramik Special trains to state till May 26 in view of Cyclone Amphan

New Delhi, May 23 (PTI) West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has asked the Railway Ministry not to send Shramik Special trains to the state till May 26 in view of Cyclone Amphan.

The letter from West Bengal Chief Secretary Rajiva Sinha to Chairman of Railway board V K Yadav dated May 22, stated that the state has been severely impacted by Super Cyclone Amphan on May 20-21 which caused extensive damage to the infrastructure.

India: Migrant worker commits suicide in home quarantine in UP

Banda (UP), May 23 (PTI) A migrant who had recently returned from Mumbai allegedly committed suicide while in home quarantine in a village here, police said.

Sunil (19) had arrived at Musivan village under Kamasin Police Station area five days ago on a Shramik special train. He committed suicide by hanging himself on Friday, police said.

The body had been sent for post-mortem examination, SHO of Kamasin Police Station, Omkar Singh said on Saturday.

India: Rahul Gandhi condoles loss of lives in Pak plane crash

New delhi, May 22 (PTI) Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday condoled the loss of lives in a plane crash in Pakistan.

"I'm sorry to hear about the air crash in Pakistan in which many lives have been lost. News of survivors is a ray of hope and I pray that there are many miraculous stories of survival tonight. My deepest condolences to the families of those who have perished," he said on Twitter.
