India: 'Anyay kaal' has caused real economic distress in India’s rural areas: Congress

New Delhi, Feb 27 (PTI) The Congress on Tuesday claimed that there is "real economic distress" in India's rural areas and asserted that the single most important policy response to the "crisis" is to kick start the agriculture sector with "adequate and predictable" MSPs for agricultural produce.

Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh took a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi's "guarantees", saying he had made a promise in 2017 to double farmers' income by 2022.

India: HC rejects plea against puja in Gyanvapi's cellar, calls govt's 1993 action 'illegal'

PRAYAGRAJ: Hindu prayers will continue in the southern cellar of the Gyanvapi mosque in Varanasi, the Allahabad High Court said on Monday while dismissing a plea that had challenged the district court's order to this effect.

The court observed that the Uttar Pradesh government's 1993 action of stopping worship rituals inside "Vyas Tehkhana" located at the southern cellar of the Gyanvapi was "illegal".

Justice Rohit Ranjan Agarwal said that the worship rituals were stopped by "illegal action of state without there being any order in writing".

Pakistan: A Russian private jet carrying 6 people is believed to have crashed in Afghanistan, officials say

ISLAMABAD (AP) — A Russian private jet carrying six people is believed to have crashed in a remote area of rural Afghanistan, authorities said Sunday.

The crash happened Saturday in a mountainous area near Zebak district in Badakhshan province, regional spokesman Zabihullah Amiri said, adding that a rescue team had been dispatched to the area. Zebak is some 250 kilometers (155 miles) northeast of Afghanistan’s capital, Kabul. It is a rural, mountainous area, home to only several thousand people.

Indian Navy rescues crew after Houthis hit ship off Yemen

NEW DELHI/WASHINGTON, Jan 18 (Reuters) - The Indian Navy said on Thursday it had rescued the crew of a U.S.-owned vessel in the Gulf of Aden after an attack by Yemen's Houthi movement as tensions in the region's sea lanes disrupted global trade.

Following the attack on the U.S. Genco Picardy late on Wednesday, the U.S. military said its forces had conducted strikes on 14 Houthi missiles that "presented an imminent threat to merchant vessels and U.S. Navy ships in the region".

Pakistan hits "terrorists" in Iran responsible for recent attacks: military

ISLAMABAD, Jan. 18 (Xinhua) -- Pakistan military said in a statement that the country had carried out effective strikes early Thursday morning against hideouts inside Iran used by "terrorists" responsible for recent attacks in Pakistan.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the media wing of the Pakistan army, said that the precision strikes were carried out by "using killer drones, rockets, loitering munitions, and stand-off weapons," adding that "maximum care was taken to avoid collateral damage."
