India: Two former UP ministers, three ex-MLAs join BJP

Lucknow, Nov 28 (PTI) Two former Uttar Pradesh ministers, three ex-MLAs and several leaders from other parties joined the BJP here on Sunday.

UP BJP chief Swatantra Dev Singh inducted them into the party and said their joining will strengthen the BJP.

Among the former ministers who joined the party was Jainarayan Tiwari from Sultanpur, according to a statement.

A three-time minister, he has been associated with the Congress and the Samajwadi Party in the past.

Tiwari was close to former UP chief minister Sripati Mishra.

India: Three BSP leaders join Congress in UP

Lucknow, Nov 28 (PTI) Three BSP leaders, including a former OSD of ex-Uttar Pradesh CM Mayawati, joined the Congress here on Sunday.

They joined the Congress in the presence of state party chief Ajay Kumar Lallu, a statement said.

The Congress said Ganga Ram, who has been the Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to BSP supremo and former chief minister Mayawati, joined the party.

The other two who joined the Congress are Shiv Puran Singh Chauhan from Ghazipur and Rajyavardhan Singh 'Raju' from Hardoi.

India: Professor held for running prostitution ring in UP

Pilibhit (UP), Nov 28 (PTI) A professor has been arrested for allegedly operating a sex racket and harassing the girl students, police said on Sunday.

A student had complained to the police that a professor of her college had been harassing the girl students, doing indecent acts with them and running a sex racket, Superintendent of Police Dinesh Kumar Prabhu told reporters.

The police complaint was filed last Sunday, he said.

India: Lok Sabha passes bill to repeal three farm laws

New Delhi, Nov 29 (PTI) A bill to repeal the three contentious farm laws, against which farmers have been protesting for over a year, was passed by the Lok Sabha within minutes of introduction on Monday.

Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar introduced The Farm Laws Repeal Bill, 2021 shortly after noon on the first day of the Winter Session of Parliament.

The opposition sought a debate on the bill and came to the well of the House raising slogans and banners.

Alvi meets Uzbek President: reaffirms Pakistan’s support for Trans-Afghan Railway project

ISLAMABAD, Nov 28 (APP): President Dr. Arif Alvi Sunday held a bilateral meeting with Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev wherein he reaffirmed Pakistan’s full support for the Trans-Afghan Railway project and assured all possible cooperation for its early realization.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 15th ECO Summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) in Ashgabat.

The talks covered the entire spectrum of bilateral cooperation, with a special focus on trade and economic relations, and connectivity agenda.

Kanpur: The tobacco and pan masala obsession of the city's people was on full display at Green Park stadium on the first day of the Test on Nov 25.

The man who was widely seen chewing 'gutkha' while talking on the phone in the stands has reportedly accepted to stop chewing tobacco. First, he pointed out that he was chewing betel nut. 

This episode was caught on camera after the completion of 70 overs of the match.

India: Shreyas Iyer's feat in Test debut at Kanpur earns plaudits

Kanpur: Shreyas Iyer on Sunday became the first Indian to score a century and a half-century on Test debut.

He slammed his maiden Test century (105) on Day 2 of the Kanpur Test in India's first innings against New Zealand. 

After Prithvi Shaw, he becomes the 16th Indian to score a century on Test debut.

It will be apt to mention here that Prithvi Shaw had reached the triple-figure mark against the West Indies in Rajkot in October 2018.

India: Army personnel booked for drugging, raping girl in UP's Mathura

Mathura, Nov 27 (PTI) An Army personnel has been booked on charges of drugging and raping a 21-year-old woman, police here said on Saturday.

The accused, Tejveer, was arrested on Wednesday and was booked for raping a woman he befriended through social media.

On Saturday, he was slapped with a few more charges, including section 376 D (rape by more than one person) and 328 (drugging a person) of the Indian Penal Code, Superintendent of Police (SP) rural Srish Chandra said.

India: 40-year-old woman raped in UP's Bhadohi

Bhadohi (UP), Nov 27 (PTI) A 40-year-old woman was allegedly raped by a man in a village here in Suriyawan area, police said on Saturday.

The incident had taken place in the first week of September when the victim was alone in her house and one Bhagwan Das Bind (50) allegedly raped her, Suriyawan SHO Bhuvneshwar Pandey said.

When the local police allegedly refused to file an FIR, the victim's family approached the court, which directed instructions in the matter.
