India: 2 cops suspended in sex racket bust in UP's Bulandshahr

Bulandshahr, Nov 27 (PTI) Two constables were suspended and a Sub Inspector sent to Police Line following busting of a sex racket at a hotel in Anoopshahr area, police here said on Saturday.

A sex racket was busted on Friday at a hotel where four men and four women were found in an objectionable situation , a senior police officer said.

A case was registered against eleven persons including hotel owner in the matter, he said.

India: 5-year-old raped by teen in UP

Mathura (UP), Nov 27 (PTI) A five-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a teenage boy in this district of Uttar Pradesh, police said on Saturday.

The alleged incident took place on Thursday in an area under the Vrindavan police station limits, they said.

The accused, a 16-year-old boy, has been sent to a juvenile home, police said.

An FIR in this connection was lodged on the basis of the complaint of the girl's father, they said. Citing the FIR, police said the teenager lured the girl to a lonely place, where he raped her.

India: Dalit woman sexually harassed in UP village

Muzaffarnagar, Nov 28 (PTI) A Dalit woman was allegedly sexually molested by a man here in a village under Chapar Police Station limits, police said on Sunday.

The woman was attacked on Saturday when she was on her way to the fields. A man dragged her in the fields and attempted to rape her, a police official said.

The woman escaped when hearing her screams for help villagers reached the spot and thrashed the accused.

India: Aged woman raped by former landlord in MP

Jabalpur, Nov 28 (PTI) A 62-year-old widow was allegedly raped repeatedly by her former landlord with whom she had a dispute over a cheque bounce matter in Madhya Pradesh's Jabalpur city, police said on Sunday.

The alleged offence took place in 2019 and the 67-year-old accused had also threatened her with dire consequences, they said.

Following a complaint lodged by the woman on Saturday, the police detained the accused, Garha police station inspector Rakesh Tiwari told PTI.

India leading the world in field of start-ups, claims PM Modi

New Delhi, Nov 28 (PTI) Asserting that this is an era of start-ups, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said India is leading the world in this field with more than 70 start-ups having crossed the valuation of USD 1 billion.

In his monthly Mann Ki Baat radio broadcast, the prime minister also said that he wants to be in service of people and not be "in power".

India, Russia To Hold Annual Bilateral Summit In Dec

NEW DELHI, Nov 27 (NNN-PTI) – Russian President, Vladimir Putin, will pay an official visit to India, on Dec 6, for the 21st India-Russia annual summit, with Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, India’s Ministry of External Affairs said yesterday.

At the summit, the two leaders will review the state and prospects of bilateral relations, and discuss ways to further strengthen the strategic partnership between the two countries.

Indian PM urged to ban flights from countries affected by Omicron COVID-19 variant

NEW DELHI, Nov. 27 (Xinhua) -- The chief minister of the Indian capital city on Saturday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to suspend incoming flights from the countries affected by the new COVID-19 variant, or Omicron.

"I urge prime minister to stop flights from those countries which are affected by new variant. With great difficulty, our country has recovered from COVID-19. We should do everything possible to prevent this new variant from entering India," Chief Minister of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal wrote on social media.

Top U.S. disease expert urges strict control of COVID-19

NEW DELHI, Nov. 27 (Xinhua) -- Top U.S. infectious disease official Anthony Fauci has urged strict prevention and control measures against COVID-19 as he believes that the virus may not be eliminated.

"There's no way we're going to eradicate, I doubt, because of the transmissibility ... I doubt very seriously whether we're going to eliminate it, like we've eliminated polio, and we've eliminated measles, and a century ago we eliminated malaria from the United States," Fauci was quoted by television news channel Times Now as saying.

Allahabad, Nov 25 (PTI) The Allahabad High Court has asked the Uttar Pradesh government how long would it take to provide biometric gadgets and CCTV camera-supported security in the state court premises.

A bench of justices Suneet Kumar and Samit Gopal posed the query on Tuesday while hearing a public interest lawsuit, instituted suo moto after a broad daylight firing in Bijnor district court in 2019.

India: High time for taking initiative to have time frame in hearing of cases, says SC

New Delhi, Nov 26 (PTI) The Supreme Court Friday said it was high time to take initiative for having a time frame for hearing of cases as very limited time space" is available and same points are being sought to be argued by lawyers in one matter.

The apex court said that when Justice M N Venkatachaliah was the Chief Justice of India (in 1993-1994), it was suggested that there would be a time frame for hearing of matters.
