Jordan, Ireland Discuss Ties, Mideast Developments

AMMAN, Nov 5 (NNN-PETRA) – Jordanian Foreign Minister, Ayman Safadi, yesterday discussed with his visiting Irish counterpart, Simon Coveney, on joint efforts to resolve regional crises and bolster bilateral ties.

The two ministers stressed keenness to deepen cooperation in all fields, and agreed to form a working group, to develop a programme to enhance cooperation on food security, water, education, tourism, technology, and cultural and research exchange, said the Jordanian Foreign Ministry, in a statement.

Jordan Warns Israel Against Expanding Settlements In Palestinian Territories

AMMAN, Oct 25 (NNN-PETRA) – Jordan yesterday warned Israel, against building new settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson, Haitham Abu Al-Foul, said in a statement that, the approval of the plan to build 3,000 new settlement units is a rejected and condemned move, which represents a violation of international law and relevant UN Security Council resolutions.

Jordan prevents events marking the Prophet's birthday

21 Oct 2021; MEMO: Jordanian authorities refused to issue permissions for events marking the Prophet Muhammed (peace be upon him)'s birthday, Anadolu reported the country's Islamic Action Front saying.

"With pain, we received the reply of the official authorities today [Wednesday], preventing the celebration of the Prophet's birthday," Thabet Assaf, Islamic Action Front spokesman, said.

Jordan’s Economy Shows Robust Recovery

AMMAN, Oct 19 (NNN-PETRA) – Jordan’s economy has been witnessing obvious growth, following the reopening of all economic sectors and improvement in the country’s macroeconomic indicators, since the beginning of 2021, according to experts.

Like other economies worldwide, Jordan suffered heavy economic losses since the outbreak of the pandemic, due to repeated lockdowns and restrictions on various sectors, but the situation has been improving since the beginning of this year as seen in many indicators.

Jordan purchases additional 50 mln cubic meters of water from Israel

AMMAN, Oct. 12 (Xinhua) -- The specialised technical committees from Jordan and Israel on Tuesday held a meeting which resulted in signing an additional water purchase agreement.

Under the agreement, Jordan can annually buy additional 50 million cubic meters of water from Israel, the Jordanian Water Ministry said in a statement.

According to the Jordanian-Israeli peace treaty, Jordan can annually receive 50 million cubic meters of water from Lake Tiberias, it said.

Jordanian ministers submit resignation ahead of gov't reshuffle -state media

AMMAN, Oct 10 (Reuters) - The Jordanian government's ministers have submitted their resignation ahead of a reshuffle, state-owned al Mamlaka television said on Sunday.

The reshuffle would be the fourth since Bisher al-Khaswaneh became prime minister in October 2020, official sources said.

Jordan's Abdullah receives first call from Syria's Assad since start of conflict

AMMAN, Oct 3 (Reuters) - Jordan's King Abdullah received a phone call from Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, the royal palace said on Sunday in what officials said was the first such communication since the start of the conflict in Syria a decade ago.

The conversation was the latest step in a recent normalisation of ties between leaders who had long been on opposing sides in Syria's civil war, with Jordan supporting Syrian Western-backed mainstream rebels seeking to drive Assad from power.

Jordan, Syria To Enhance Cooperation In Various Areas, Resume Flights

AMMAN, Sept 29 (NNN-SANA) – Jordan and Syria decided to enhance cooperation in various fields, said an announcement yesterday, at the conclusion of the Jordanian-Syrian ministerial meeting held in Amman over two days.

The final statement, issued by the Prime Ministry in Jordan said that, talks covered the conditions of the Jordanian-Syrian Transport Company, and means to find solutions to address its problems. Discussions also went over means to facilitate the flow of goods and passengers’ movement.

Jordan Sends Letter Of Protest To Israel Against “Continued Violations” At Al-Aqsa Mosque

AMMAN, Sept 29 (NNN-PETRA) – Jordan’s Foreign Ministry, sent an official letter of protest to Israel, calling for “stopping its violations and provocations” at al-Aqsa Mosque, the ministry’s Spokesperson, Haitham Abu Al-Foul, said yesterday.

The Foreign Ministry condemned the alleged ongoing Israeli violations at al-Aqsa Mosque, the latest of which was “allowing a large number of extremists, entry into the mosque, under the protection of Israeli forces, during the Jewish holidays throughout Sept,” according to a statement by the ministry.
