India: Cong demands UP CM's resignation and apology from PM

Bengaluru, Oct 4 (PTI) The Congress in Karnataka on Monday demanded resignation of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and sought an apology from Prime Minister Narendra Modi taking responsibility for the death of farmers in Lakhimpur Kheri in violence.

They also sought immediate sacking of Union Minister Ajay Mishra and the arrest of his son, who has been named in an FIR.

India: Karnataka CM denounces Bharat Bandh by farmers' bodies

Tumakuru, Sep 25 (PTI) Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Saturday denounced the call for Bharat Bandh by the Samyukt Kisan Morcha against the Centre's three contentious farm laws on September 27, saying disrupting economic activities post COVID-19 was not in the interest of the nation.

People have just now started performing various tasks after suffering for one-and-half years due to the pandemic, he said. "They have started their business activities. It is our duty to make sure that people should not face hardship," Bommai told reporters.

India: Man held for rape of five-year old girl in Bengaluru

Bengaluru, Sep 20 (PTI) The alleged rape of a minor girl by a migrant labourer from West Bengal and the demand by the girl's parents and local people urging the police to hand over the accused following his arrest led to tense moments at a police station here.

The minor was allegedly raped on Sunday by Saurav Mistry, a 23-year old labourer from 24 Parganas in West Bengal after he took the five-year old girl on the pretext of showing her a video on his mobile phone.

India: Karnataka govt restrains officials from going to media

Bengaluru, Sep 18 (PTI) The Karnataka government on Saturday restrained officials from going before the media to air their grievances or share opinions, other than for bonafide official purposes.

It also put a stop on officials using social media as a platform to project government or department achievements as personal achievements and asked them to use accounts or handles created in the name of the administration to share official information.

Canadian city to commemorate Sept 5 as Gauri Lankesh Day

Bengaluru, Sep 2 (PTI) The Canadian city of Burnaby has declared September 5 as 'Gauri Lankesh Day',as a tribute to the slain journalist on her death anniversary, her sister Kavitha Lankesh said on Thursday.

"I have received a proclamation (from Burnaby about observing Gauri Lankesh Day)," Kavitha told PTI.

India: 7-day institutional quarantine mandatory for those coming to Karnataka from Kerala

Bengaluru, Aug 31 (PTI) People entering Karnataka from neighbouring Kerala will have to remain in institutional quarantine for a week even if they are vaccinated and carry a negative RT-PCR test report, Karnataka Health Minister K Sudhakar said.

The measure is also applicable to air passengers from Kerala and they can choose a hotel of their choice, which had been designated for institutional quarantine.

India: Yediyurappa announces resignation as Karnataka Chief Minister

Bengaluru, Jul 26 (PTI) B S Yediyurappa on Monday announced his resignation as the Chief Minister of Karnataka, as his government completes two years in office.

The 78-year old, BJP veteran said he will submit his resignation to the Governor post lunch.

"Don't take me otherwise, with your permission... I have decided that after lunch I will go to the Raj Bhavan and submit my resignation as the Chief Minister to the Governor," Yediyurappa said with a choked voice, as he turned emotional.

India: "I will have to abide by high command's decision": Karnataka CM

Bengaluru, Jul 20 (PTI) Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa is said to have told a delegation of pontiffs from various communities on Tuesday that he will have to abide by the decision of the BJP high command, giving some credence to speculation that a change of leadership is on the cards.

However, these pontiffs have warned of a political fallout for the BJP in Karnataka if Yediyurappa is dislodged as the Chief Minister.

India: 6 of family jump into pond in Karn; debt relaed suicide suspected

Yadgir (Karnataka), June 28 (PTI): In a case of suspected suicide pact, six of a family jumped into a village pond in Shahapur Taluk on Monday, police said.

According to the police, Bheemaraya Surapura, his wife Shanthamma, son Shivaraj, daughters Sumitra, Sridevi and Lakshmi were found dead in the pond.

"They might have drowned themselves at about 10 AM today but we came to know about it when their bodies came up floating on the surface," a police officer told PTI.

India: Ghaziabad Muslim assault case: Twitter India MD gets relief, no coercive action, says Court

Bengaluru/Ghaziabad, Jun 24 (PTI) Twitter India's Head Manish Maheshwari, who was summoned by the Ghaziabad Police in connection with a probe related to the assault of an elderly Muslim man there recently, did not appear before them as the Karnataka High Court restrained police from initiating coercive action against him.

In his interim order, the single bench of Justice G Narender said "if the police desire to examine the petitioner (Manish Maheshwari), they may do so by virtual mode."
