India: Maha govt says jeans OK at office, but not T-shirt

Mumbai, Mar 16 (PTI) After asking employees and officials not to wear T-shirts and jeans at office, the Maharashtra government on Tuesday amended the order by dropping jeans from the prohibition.

Government employees must not wear T-shirts while on official duty, the new order said.

By an order on December 8, the government had prohibited wearing of jeans and T-shirts, a fiat that had met with opposition from employees.

India: Former BJP Union minister Dilip Gandhi dies of COVID-19

Mumbai, Mar 17 (PTI) BJP leader and former Union minister Dilip Gandhi died at a hospital in New Delhi on Wednesday, family sources said.

He was 69.

Gandhi had served as the Minister of State for Shipping in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee-led central government.

He recently tested positive for coronavirus and was undergoing treatment for multiple ailments, the sources said.

The BJP leader, who started his career as a corporator in late 80s, had won the Lok Sabha elections three times since 1999 from Ahmednagar in Maharashtra.

India: Bollywood actor/director Aamir Khan quits social media

Mumbai, Mar 15 (PTI) Bollywood superstar-producer Aamir Khan on Monday announced that he has decided to leave social media, adding that updates about his future projects will be available on his production banner's official account.

Khan, who turned 56 yesterday, also thanked his well-wishers for their love and warmth on his birthday.

India: Ambani security scare: NIA arrests Mumbai police officer Sachin Waze

Mumbai, Mar 13 (PTI) The National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested Mumbai Police officer Sachin Waze Saturday night after questioning him for 12 hours over the recovery of an explosive-laden vehicle near the residence of industrialist Mukesh Ambani, an agency spokesperson said.

Waze was summoned at the agency's Mumbai office at Cumballa Hill in south Mumbai around 11.30 am to record his statement. There was no official update on him throughout the day.

India: Fadnavis, Sahasrabuddhe appointed as heads of BJP's think-tank

Mumbai, Mar 13 (PTI) Senior BJP leaders Devendra Fadnavis and Vinay Sahasrabuddhe have been appointed chairman and vice-chairman respectively of the Rambhau Mhalgi Prabodhini on Saturday.

The think-tank-cum-academy for socio-political activists aims to groom "purpose-driven leadership".

India: Cop booked in Maha for raping and duping woman

Nagpur, Mar 13 (PTI) A police inspector from Nagpur in Maharashtra has been booked for allegedly raping a 45-year-old widow and duping her of Rs 4 lakh, an official said on Saturday.

The victim, a resident of Gittikhadan area in the city, became friends with the inspector through social media in 2019, the official said.

The two exchanged their mobile phone numbers and started chatting.

India: Cheating, copyright breach case filed against Kangana

Mumbai, Mar 12 (PTI) A case of alleged cheating was filed against actor Kangana Ranaut by Mumbai police on Friday on a local court's orders after the author of 'Didda: The Warrior Queen of Kashmir' accused her of copyright violation.

The First Information Report (FIR) was registered at Khar police station against Kangana, Kamalkumar Jain, Rangoli Chandel and Akshat Ranaut, an official said.

India: Maha woman constable held for killing husband in Palghar

Palghar, Mar 12 (PTI) A woman constable was arrested along with four others for allegedly killing her husband in Palghar in Maharashtra, police said on Friday.

WPC Snehal Patil was in a relationship with her colleague Vikas Pashte, which was not liked by her husband Pundalik, an official said.

Patil and Pashte and three others took Pundalik, a rickshaw driver, to Mastan Naka on Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway on February 18 and killed him, he said.

Patil and Pashte and the three others were arrested on March 3, the official said.

India: Woman kills husband who had five wives

Nagpur, Mar 11 (PTI) A woman has been arrested here for allegedly killing her husband, a police official said on Thursday.

Swati Laxman Malik (28), the accused, was the fifth wife of victim Laxman Ramlal Malik (65), a resident of Jaripatka, police said.

According to police, Laxman had disowned his younger son from Swati as he suspected her fidelity.

India: Debt-ridden farmer ends life in Nagpur district

Nagpur, Mar 10 (PTI) A debt-ridden farmer committed suicide by hanging himself at Mahadula in Nagpur district, police said on Wednesday.

The deceased was identified as Rameshwar Shivcharan Kelekar (30).

As per his family, Kelekar had taken loans of over Rs 2 lakh from a nationalized bank and also by mortgaging jewelery but suffered losses as his cotton crop was damaged by unseasonal rains.

He had sold his paddy crop to the Maharashtra State Co-op Tribal Development Corporation but was yet to receive Rs 50,000 from it.
