Malaysian King Receives Credentials of 19 Foreign Envoys

KUALA LUMPUR, April 25 (NNN-Bernama) — Malaysian King Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah on Monday received the credentials of 19 foreign envoys to Malaysia, at Istana Negara (National Palace) here.

Also present at the ceremony was the Queen Tunku Hajah Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah.

The 19 foreign envoys are Joana Veneranda Amaral from Timor-Leste; Takahashi Katsuhiko (Japan); Saad Maandi (Algeria); Ricardo Estanislao Morote Canales (Peru); Dabare Liyanage Sumangala Dias (Sri Lanka) and Constance Chemwayi (Zimbabwe).

Malaysia Hosts Working Visit Of Brunei’s Second Foreign Minister

PUTRAJAYA (Malaysia), April 21 (NNN-Bernama) — Brunei’s Second Minister of Foreign Affairs Erywan Mohd Yusof is currently on a three-day working visit to Malaysia.

During his visit here from 20 to 22 April, he is scheduled to meet his Malaysian counterpart Saifuddin Abdullah and discuss further on bilateral cooperation following Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob’s official visit to Brunei on Feb 14-15 this year.

Covid: Malaysia’s Recoveries Continue To Surpass New Cases

KUALA LUMPUR, April 21 (NNN-Bernama) — Malaysia recorded a total of 8,267 recovered cases Wednesday, bringing the cumulative number of recoveries to 4,283,013, according to Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

He said new cases reported Wednesday were also below the 10,000 mark at 6,968 cases, bringing the cumulative number of positive cases in the country to 4,409,202.

Over 500 Rohingya flee Malaysian detention, 6 die on highway

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) — More than 500 Rohingya refugees escaped from detention in Malaysia early Wednesday following a protest but most have been rearrested, immigration officials said.

The Immigration Department said 528 Rohingya fled after breaking a block door and barrier grill at a temporary detention center in northern Penang state. Police and other agencies were deployed and 362 detainees have been rearrested, the department said in a statement.

Malaysia In The Midst Of Calling OIC, UNSC On Al Aqsa Incident

PUTRAJAYA (Malaysia), April 18 (NNN-Bernama) — Malaysia is in the midst of calling the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to stop the Israeli aggression on Palestinians, as seen in the raid and clashes at the Al Aqsa mosque last Friday. 

Foreign Minister Saifuddin Abdullah said the incident has to be stopped from continuing as it could lead to the repeat of May 2021 air attack on Gaza.

Malaysia Reports 10,052 New COVID-19 Infections, 22 New Deaths

KUALA LUMPUR, Apr 14 (NNN-BERNAMA) – Malaysia reported 10,052 new COVID-19 infections as of midnight, bringing the national total to 4,352,611, according to the health ministry.

There are 21 new imported cases, with 10,031 being local transmissions, data released on the ministry’s website showed.

A further 22 deaths have been reported, bringing the death toll to 35,363.

The ministry reported 15,893 new recoveries, bringing the total number of the cured and discharged to 4,196,656.

Foreign Ministry Confirms Malaysia’s Ambassador To UAE, Consul-General In Dubai Recalled Home

PUTRAJAYA (Malaysia), April 11 (NNN-Bernama) — Malaysia’s Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the Consul-General of Malaysia in Dubai have been recalled by the Foreign Ministry (Wisma Putra) for failing to coordinate administrative and logistical matters during Malaysian Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob’s visit to the UAE late last month.

According to a statement from Wisma Putra on Monday, the failure had forced the Prime Minister to wait long at the arrival hall for passport and Immigration clearance by the Dubai Immigration.

40 Sports To Be Featured At 2023 Sea Games In Cambodia

KUALA LUMPUR, April 10 (NNN-Bernama) — Cambodia is set to make history when it hosts the SEA Games for the first time next year as it will be featuring 40 sports, including its national martial arts of kun bokator.

The South-East Asian Games Federation (SEAGF), in a statement, said this will be the highest number of sports to be featured by a nation hosting the biennial Games for the first time since 1977. 

Foreign Ministry Refutes Report Regarding “10,000 Malaysian Illegals” In Thailand

KUALA LUMPUR, April 9 (NNN-Bernama) — The Malaysian Foreign Ministry today stressed the allegation that 10,000 of its citizens were still in Thailand illegally or overstaying as completely baseless, and believed that the actual number is much smaller.

The ministry said since the Movement Control Order (PKP) was implemented in March 2020, the Ministry and the Malaysian Consulate General in Songkhla has provided assistance to more than 2,439 Malaysians who wish to return home.

Malaysia Abstains From Voting To Suspend Russia From Un Human Rights Council

PUTRAJAYA, April 8 (NNN-Bernama) — Malaysia has abstained from a United Nations General Assembly vote to suspend Russia from the UN Human Rights Council.

It was one of the 58 countries that had abstained in the voting on Thursday which saw 93 member states vote in favour while 24 countries were against the resolution. 

The Foreign Ministry in a statement on Friday said Malaysia stressed that a critical decision such as the suspension of a Human Rights Council member should not be made in haste and must be accorded its due processes.
