KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 20 (NNN-BERNAMA) — Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan believes Ankara and Kuala Lumpur can enhance their cooperation in the Islamic finance sector for mutual benefits.

“We (Turkey) have to take Islamic finance on our agenda, make it a priority. We believe Malaysia has the advantage as a pioneer in Islamic finance and resources. So we can collaborate between our banks, private players…we have the models, such as Sukuk,” he said Thursday.

SERI KEMBANGAN, Dec 19 (NNN-BERNAMA) — Malaysia has called for more collaboration with China to enhance the transportation sector, especially in port and shipping development. 

Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook said more investment from the republic’s companies will not only enhance the maritime network between the two countries, but also trade, business and tourism linkages.

“It’s a major order for us to compete with our neighbouring countries but we must be able to compete.

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 19 (NNN-BERNAMA) — The Kuala Lumpur Summit (KL Summit) 2019 is set to take place in this Malaysian capital this morning, with issues affecting the Muslim community being up for discussion among its participants who will also seek to address them. 

The event at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) will be presided over by Prime Minister and KL Summit chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah is scheduled to deliver a royal address at the opening of the conference.

KUALA LUMPUR. Malaysia (AP) — Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on Thursday urged Muslim nations to deepen financial and trade cooperation to fight what he described as U.S. economic hegemony, using an Islamic conference in Malaysia as a platform to decry American sanctions against his country.

Rouhani repeated his assertion that the U.S. has used economic sanctions as the “main tools of domineering hegemony and bullying” of other nations.

18 Dec 2019; MEMO: Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir bin Mohamad told Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz that the Islamic Summit in Kuala Lumpur would not be a substitute for the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Tuesday.

In a video call with Salman, Mohamad said that Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan told him that he would not be able to attend the summit.

KUALA LUMPUR (Reuters) - A Malaysian police officer on death row for the 2006 slaying of a Mongolian model has accused former prime minister Najib Razak of ordering him to kill the woman, according to media reports and the policeman’s lawyer.

Azilah Hadri and another police officer, who were serving on Najib’s security detail at the time of the murder, were sentenced to death in 2015 for killing 28-year-old Altantuya Shaariibuu.

PUTRAJAYA, Dec 14  (NNN-BERNAMA) — A total 138,901 illegal immigrants have returned to their countries of origin voluntarily through the Back For Good (B4G) programme as of Dec 12 since it was launched on Aug 1.

Immigration Department Director-General Datuk Khairul Dzaimee Daud said of that number, Indonesians   were the highest with 53,328 illegal immigrants, followed by those from Bangladesh (38,734), India (22,964), Myanmar (6,923), while the rest were from other countries.
