GEOJE (South Korea), Dec 2 (NNN-BERNAMA) — Petronas’ Floating Liquefied Natural Gas Dua (PFLNG Dua) is expected to start commercial operations in November 2020.

Its chief executive officer Abang Yusuf Abang Puteh said the vessel, designed to extract gas from deepwater gas reservoirs in depths up to 1,500 meters is scheduled for completion and sail away from the shipyard to Malaysian waters in February 2020.

“We will be able to start it up in July, followed by commercial operation in November 2020,” he told Bernama and TV3 in an interview here.

SEOUL, Nov 28 (NNN-Bernama) — Kuala Lumpur welcomes Seoul’s proposal to elevate bilateral ties to strategic partnership to mark the 60th anniversary of their diplomatic relationship next year.

Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad said the governments of both countries will discuss the details of the proposal, which will be in line with Malaysia’s intention to tap into South Korea’s strength in advanced technology and innovation.

MELAKA, Nov 26 (NNN-BERNAMA) — It is estimated that about 5,000 Rohingya refugees are in Melaka, to date, the Melaka State Assembly was told today.

However, Chief Minister, Adly Zahari said that according to the Malaysian Rohingya Council (MRM) not all were registered with the United Nations High Comission for Refugees (UNHCR).

‘’MRM moves from house to house to collect data on the refugees and represents the Rohingya community to liaise with the government and international agencies,’’ he told the State Assembly in Seri Melaka today.

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 25 (NNN-BERNAMA) — Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) has identified various Malaysian products which could potentially fill in the gaps arising from the United States-China trade conflict.

Deputy chief executive officer Mohd Mustafa Abdul Aziz said the product categories include electrical and electronics (E&E), machinery and equipment, optical and scientific products, petroleum as well as chemicals and chemical products.

MOSCOW, Nov 22 (NNN-BERNAMA) — Malaysia will invite Russian President Vladimir Putin to participate in the 2020 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit that the Southeast Asian nation will host, Sputnik news agency quoted Foreign Minister Saifuddin Abdullah as saying on Thursday.

“We, of course, will welcome President Putin’s involvement in the APEC 2020 that Malaysia is hosting next year in November,” Saifuddin said after talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 19 (NNN-BERNAMA) — Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad suffered a slight nose bleed today during a press conference but is reportedly in good health.

News that he was rushed for medical attention is not true, said a message which the Prime Minister’s Office shared with the media.

“He resumed normal duties,” the message said.

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 8 (NNN-BERNAMA) — The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will send an official letter to the Indian government to explain Malaysia’s stance for not sending back controversial preacher Zakir Naik to his country of origin. 

Its minister Saifuddin Abdullah said he would discuss with Attorney-General Tommy Thomas to provide an accurate content for the letter.

KUALA LUMPUR/PHNOM PENH (Reuters) - Malaysia detained the deputy chief of Cambodia’s banned opposition party, Mu Sochua, after Phnom Penh accused her and other self-exiled opposition figures of seeking to return home to stage a coup against longtime authoritarian leader Hun Sen.

Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad indicated on Thursday that Mu Sochua would not be turned over to Cambodia but would instead be deported to an as-yet-undetermined third country.
