Jokowi being chaufferred around by Dr Mahathir in a Proton

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 11 (NNN-Bernama) — Indonesian President Joko Widodo today shared his excitement of being chauffeured around by Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad in a Proton car during his two-day visit to Malaysia ended yesterday.

On Friday, Dr Mahathir took Joko, popularly known as Jokowi, in the Proton Persona car, which the former drove himself, to a luncheon he hosted at Seri Perdana, the prime minister’s official residence. 

Malaysia files charges against 17 current, ex-Goldman execs

Kuala Lumpur, Aug 9 (AFP) Malaysia filed criminal charges Friday against 17 current and former directors of three Goldman Sachs subsidiaries, piling further pressure on the Wall Street titan over the multi-billion-dollar 1MDB scandal.

Billions of dollars were looted from the country's sovereign wealth fund 1Malaysia Development Berhad in a globe-spanning fraud, which allegedly involved ex-leader Najib Razak and his inner circle.

Malaysia: Najib’s son sued for RM37.6 million for unpaid taxes

KUALA LUMPUR,  Aug 8 (NNN-BERNAMA) — After slapping Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak with a RM1.69 billion tax suit, Malaysia’s Inland Revenue Board (IRB) is now suing the former premier’ son over RM37.6 million of unpaid taxes from 2011 to 2017.

The Malaysian Government, as the plaintiff, filed the writ of summons and statement of claims through the IRB at the High Court on July 24, naming 36-year-old Datuk Mohd Nazifuddin Mohd Najib as the sole defendant.

Newly-installed King cautions against undermining, destroying harmony

KUALA LUMPUR, July 30 (NNN-Bernama) — Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, in his maiden address as the newly-installed Yang di-Pertuan Agong, called on the people to refrain from inciting misunderstanding by raising matters than can undermine and destroy harmony in the country.

His Majesty stressed that unity and harmony are the pillars and strength of the nation.

“Playing with fire will burn not only oneself but also the whole village,” Sultan Abdullah said at his installation as the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong at Istana Negara here today.

It is dirty politics – Dr Mahathir on sex video implicating minister

KUALA LUMPUR, July 23 (NNN-BERNAMA) — Malaysian Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said he is not defending Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali over a viral sex video which allegedly implicated the Economic Affairs Minister.

He also said that that dirty politics is not going to trap him into being part of it. 

“I’m not defending him (Mohamed Azmin). I’m just saying that dirty kinds of politics like that will not trap me into being part of it.

Malaysia ready to hold talks with China on cancelled gas pipeline compensation

KUALA LUMPUR, July 17  (NNN-BERNAMA) — Malaysia is ready to hold talks with China in respect of friendly consultations over compensation for the cancelled gas pipeline projects undertaken by China Petroleum Pipeline Engineering (CPP), says Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

It was reported that Malaysia had seized more than RM1 billion from a bank account of state-owned CPP over incomplete pipeline projects, namely stretching 600 km along the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia and 662 km in Sabah.        

Strategic paper underway to help Rohingya refugees, says Malaysian Foreign Minister

KUALA LUMPUR, July 17 (NNN-BERNAMA) — The Foreign Ministry is preparing a strategic paper to determine the optimum role Malaysia can play to help the Rohingya refugees, the Malaysian parliament (Dewan Rakyat) was told today.

Foreign Minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah said Malaysia has been consistent in championing the fate of the community, especially in bringing their oppressors to justice.

Hollywood producer charged in Malaysia over 1MDB scandal

5 July 2019; AFP: The Malaysian producer of Hollywood film "The Wolf of Wall Street" and stepson of the country's disgraced ex-leader was Friday charged with illegally receiving almost $250 million from state fund 1MDB.

Riza Aziz pleaded not guilty to five charges of money laundering when he appeared in a Kuala Lumpur court.

He is accused of receiving $248.17 million in 2011 and 2012 in illegal proceeds that originated from the scandal-hit Malaysian fund.

Malaysian ´Flying car´ prototype to be unveiled as early as October

KUALA LUMPUR, July 3 (NNN-Bernama) — The first prototype of air mobility is expected to be launched as early as October, said Entrepreneur Development Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Redzuan Md Yusof.

He said the development of the prototype involved several private companies and does not involve government spending.

“The air mobility industry is among the new entrepreneurship areas which have been identified to have high potential in the local and international markets, particularly in the infrastructure, security and agriculture sectors.
