IMF approves 28.9 mln USD to Maldives as COVID-19 cases rise

MALE, April 23 (Xinhua) -- The International Monetary Fund (IMF) approved a disbursement of 28.9 million U.S. dollars to the Maldives on Thursday as the number of COVID-19 cases in the country continued to rise, local media reported.

The Executive Board of the IMF approved the disbursement under the Rapid Credit Facility (RCF), which the government can use to manage fiscal needs and balance of payments amid a worsening COVID-19 outbreak.

Maldives To Isolate All Citizens Arriving From Foreign Countries

MALE, Maldives, Mar 19 (NNN-PSM) – The Maldives government today (Thursday) announced that, all citizens arriving from foreign countries will be kept in isolation for 14 days.

Maldives’ Health Protection Agency (HPA), said that, all citizens arriving from countries that are exempt from temporary travel restrictions, will be kept in home-quarantine for 14 days starting today (Thursday).

However, citizens arriving from the United States will be kept in a government arranged isolation facility for 14 days, the HPA said.

Maldives Condemns Netanyahu’s Plan To Annex Jordan Valley

MALE, Maldives, Sept 14 (NNN-PSM) – The Maldives government has condemned the statement made by Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, that he plans to annex the Jordan Valley, in the occupied West Bank, if he wins the re-election.

The foreign ministry in a statement, said that, any attempt to annex any part of the occupied Palestinian territories would be a grave violation of international law, including the Geneva Conventions, and would further push back any chance of meaningful dialogue between the parties, towards achieving a lasting peace in the Middle East.

MALE, Maldives, Aug 28 (NNN-PSM) – The Maldivian government, on Tuesday said, it will begin to interconnect and develop all the islands in the country, in order to boost the economy of these local islands.

Planning Minister, Mohamed Aslam, speaking in parliament, said that, the government will develop all the islands under the country’s National Development Plan.
