ULAN BATOR, Oct 30 (NNN-XINHUA) – Mongolia’s National Agency for Meteorology and Environmental Monitoring, today issued a warning of heavy snow and snowstorms.

As of this morning, the western provinces of Bayan-Ulgii, Uvs and Govi-Altai, the northern provinces of Khuvsgul and Selenge, and the central areas of Tuv province and the national capital, Ulan Bator, have seen 1-20 cm of snow, the weather monitoring agency said, adding that, the snowstorms are reducing visibility.

ULAN BATOR, Aug 28 (NNN-XINHUA) – A total of 97 forest and steppe fires have been recorded across Mongolia, since the beginning of this year, destroying 1,051,907 hectares of forest and grassland, the country’s National Emergency Management Agency, said today.

The number of registered wildfires is up around 73 percent, compared with the same period last year, the emergency agency said, in a statement.

The sharp increase is mainly due to people’s negligence, the agency said, warning citizens not to make open fires or throw cigarette butts on the ground.

ULAN BATOR, July 4 (Xinhua) -- Mongolian Prime Minister Luvsannamsrai Oyun-Erdene will pay an official visit to Singapore from Wednesday to Saturday at the invitation of his Singaporean counterpart Lee Hsien Loong to boost ties, according to the Mongolian Foreign Ministry.

This will be the first visit to Singapore by a Mongolian prime minister after an interval of 11 years, the ministry said in a press release on Monday.

ULAN BATOR, May 9 (NNN-XINHUA) – Mongolia exported a total of 3.8 million tonnes of coal in the first four months of this year, down 48 percent year on year, Mongolian Customs General Administration said today.

The significant decrease is related to border restrictions, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it said.

Coal is Mongolia’s main export commodity.

Mongolia has planned to export at least 36 million tonnes of coal in 2022, according to the authority.

ULAN BATOR, Apr 10 (NNN-XINHUA) – Strong winds and yellow dust storms, are hitting large parts of Mongolia, the country’s National Agency for Meteorology and Environmental Monitoring said, yesterday.

The storms swept through the southern provinces of Umnugovi and Dundgovi, the western provinces of Govi-Altai and Bayankhongor, and central areas, such as, the capital city, Ulan Bator and provinces of Uvurkhangai and Tuv, as well as, the eastern provinces of Khentii and Sukhbaatar, the agency said in a statement.

ULAN BATOR, Mar 14 (NNN-XINHUA) – Mongolian President, Ukhnaa Khurelsukh, today announced that, the country is launching a national movement against alcoholism, for national security and the well-being of Mongolian families.

“One of the main reasons for our sufferings is alcoholism. Alcoholism never brings good. Instead, it brings misery, loss, and sorrow,” Khurelsukh said, during a national conference called “Men’s Participation and Leadership in Social Development.”

ULAN BATOR, Jan 13 (NNN-XINHUA) – Mongolia recorded 2,279 new COVID-19 cases over the past 24 hours, bringing the national count to 401,761, the country’s health ministry said today.

Meanwhile, the viral disease has so far claimed 2,006 lives, after three new deaths were reported.

The country confirmed its first imported and local cases of the Omicron variant last week, which indicates the beginning of the fourth wave of pandemic, health authorities said, urging the public to follow all relevant health guidelines.

ULAN BATOR, Dec 17 (NNN-XINHUA) – Mongolia’s Health Ministry reported today that, no COVID-19 related deaths have been recorded in the country, over the past 24 hours, for the first time since Apr 4.

So far, the viral disease has claimed a total of 1,968 lives, since its first case was confirmed in Mar last year, according to the ministry.

Meanwhile, 262 new COVID-19 cases have been reported across the country, in the past day, bringing the national tally to 387,708, the ministry said.

ULAN BATOR, Nov 21 (NNN-XINHUA) – Mongolia reported 509 new local infections of COVID-19, over the past 24 hours, raising the national caseload to 378,575, according to a statement by the country’s health ministry today.

More than half of the latest confirmed cases were detected in the capital, Ulan Bator, it said.

Meanwhile, the country’s COVID-19 death toll increased to 1,867, after seven more patients died in the past day.

ULAN BATOR, Aug 9 (NNN-XINHUA) – Air quality in the Mongolian capital city of Ulan Bator has been deteriorating dramatically, due to smoke from massive wildfires raging in Russia’s Siberia, authorities said today.

“Air quality in the capital city is now reaching very unhealthy level. Today, the average density of PM 2.5 stayed at 151.5 micrograms per cubic metre, which is 15 times above WHO exposure recommendation,” the Mongolian national agency for meteorology and environment monitoring, said in a statement.
