Spanish waste is being smuggled in to Morocco, gov't must act: MP says

14 June 2023; MEMO: A member of the Moroccan parliament has questioned what measures the government has put in place to protect the kingdom from being a site to dump foreign rubbish.

This comes after media outlets published details of an investigation carried out by the Spanish authorities into the smuggling of tonnes of plastic waste into Morocco and other countries in Africa.

Israel arms company to manufacture weapons in Morocco

13 June 2023; MEMO: Israeli defence technology company, Elbit Systems, intends to open two sites in Morocco, according to Shai Cohen, head of the liaison office in Morocco.

Cohen told reporters on Friday that the two branches will produce "defence systems", pointing out that "one of the branches will be opened in the city of Casablanca".

The announcement comes as Moroccan-Israeli relations are witnessing rapid developments in various fields, especially in the field of defence and security.

Israeli soldiers to join Moroccan war games for first time

RABAT, June 6 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Israeli soldiers will for the first time take part in military exercises in Morocco when the biggest war games event in Africa kicks off Tuesday, the Israeli army said.

“This is the first time that the IDF is taking an active part in the ‘African Lion’ international exercise,” said a statement from the Israeli army late Monday.

“A delegation of 12 soldiers and commanders from the Golani Reconnaissance Battalion” — an elite infantry unit — has been sent to participate alongside some 8,000 soldiers from 18 countries.

Morocco: Protests over culling of stray dogs and cats

04 June 2023; MEMO: Animal rights activists in Morocco staged a protest in the capital Rabat yesterday calling for an end to the culling of stray cats and dogs by the authorities.

The demonstration came a day after the interior ministry informed local media that it had already taken measures to encourage municipalities to avoid using firearms and poisons to kill stray dogs.

Kingdom of Morocco condemn Israel forces incursion into the Al Aqsa Mosque

RABAT, April 6 (NNN-KBC) — The Royal Kingdom of Morocco has come out strongly to condemn the incursion of Israeli forces into the Al Aqsa Mosque as well as the aggression against and terror on worshippers in the holy month of Ramadan.

This was said on Wednesday by , the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates in a statement.

Morocco mulls raising retirement age to 65

09 Feb 2023; MEMO: The Moroccan government has begun reviewing a major reform plan to the country's pension systems, including raising the retirement age to 65.

A study conducted at the end of 2022 at the Moroccan government's request, recommended raising the retirement age to 65 years in the public and private sectors.  It currently stands at 63 years in the public sector and 60 years in the private sector.

Morocco rescues 167 Spain-bound migrants in Mediterranean, Atlantic

RABAT, Feb. 8 (Xinhua) -- The Moroccan navy rescued 167 Spain-bound migrants in the Mediterranean and the Atlantic from Jan. 28 to Feb. 7, official news agency MAP reported Wednesday.

The migrants have attempted dangerous crossings and encountered problems while boarding several makeshift boats, kayaks, jet skis, and even swimming, MAP said.

Before being taken to the closest Moroccan ports and handed over to the Royal Gendarmerie for the usual procedures, the migrants received first aid from navy units, according to the report.

Morocco to invest $1.95bn in renewable energy projects in disputed Western Sahara
