ICC prosecutors cite grave errors in Gbagbo acquittal at start of appeal

HAGUE, June 24 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Prosecutors at the International Criminal Court (ICC) said “grave errors” were made in acquittal last year of former Ivory Coast president Laurent Gbagbo, as they began their bid to overturn the decision at an appeals hearing on Monday.

The ICC, the world’s first permanent war crimes court, said in January last year that prosecutors had failed to prove any case against Gbagbo.

ICC prosecutor deplores non-execution of arrest warrants for Libyan fugitives

UNITED NATIONS, May 6 (NNN-Xinhua) — The chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), Fatou Bensouda, on Tuesday deplored the non-execution of arrest warrants for Libyan fugitives wanted by the court.

In her briefing to the Security Council, Bensouda called out Egypt and Gen. Khalifa Haftar, commander-in-chief of the east-based Libyan National Army (LNA), for their failure to surrender the fugitives.

The arrest warrants for Al-Tuhamy Mohamed Khaled and Mahmoud al-Werfalli are yet to be executed, said Bensouda.

Palestine welcomes ICC report on jurisdiction over Palestinian territories

Netherland Covid cases rise above 37,000, with 120 new deaths

AMSTERDAM, April 26 (NNN-AGENCIES) — The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the Netherlands rose by 655 to 37,190, health authorities said, with 120 new deaths.

The country’s death toll stands at 4,409, the Netherlands Institute for Public Health (RIVM) said in its daily update.

The actual numbers are likely higher, as not all suspected cases are tested, the RIVM said.

EU rescue talks fail as Netherlands blocks virus compromise

8 April 2020; AFP: EU finance ministers failed on Wednesday to agree on a rescue plan to help hard hit member states face the coronavirus outbreak, after the Netherlands blocked the deal over bailout conditions.

"After 16 hours of discussions, we came close to a deal but we are not there yet. I suspended the Eurogroup and (we will) continue tomorrow Thursday," said Eurogroup chief Mario Centeno.
