US imposes visa restrictions on three senior Pakistani officials

Islamabad, May 15 (PTI) The US has imposed visa sanctions on three senior Pakistani interior ministry officials following a row between the two countries over deportation of dozens of Pakistanis in America for their visa overstay and other allegations.

Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi on Tuesday informed the National Assembly's Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs about that visa curbs by the US.

Hafiz Saeed's brother-in-law arrested in Pakistan

Lahore, May 15 (PTI) Outlawed Jamaat-ud-Dawa's top leader and Mumbai attack mastermind Hafiz Saeed's brother-in-law Hafiz Abdur Rehman Makki has been arrested for hate speech and criticising the Pakistan government, police said on Wednesday.

Makki, head of JuD's political and international affairs wing and in-charge of its charity Falah-e-Insaniat Foundation (FIF), was arrested during a government crackdown against the outlawed organisations.

Int’l Day of Families observed Wednesday

ISLAMABAD, May 15 (APP): International Day of Families observed May 15 to promote the importance of a healthy and well-balanced family with the theme of this year is “Families and Climate Action: Focus on SDG13”.

Talking to private news channel Expert Haroon Ahmed said in connection with this particular day that the purpose to observe the day is to provide an opportunity to promote awareness of issues relating to families and to increase knowledge of the social, economic and demographic processes affecting them.

IHA ranks Pakistan 3rd in world for newly installed hydropower capacity

ISLAMABAD, May 14 (APP): In what can be termed a matter of pride and privilege for the country, Pakistan was ranked 3rd in the world for newly installed hydropower capacity.

This has been declared by the International Hydropower Association (IHA) in its recently issued report titled “2019: Hydropower Status Report – Sector Trends and Insights”, said a statement issued on Tuesday.

389 registered Afghan families repatriated to Afghanistan: UNHCR

ISLAMABAD, May 14 (APP): United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has voluntary repatriated 389 registered Afghan families comprising 1,528 individuals to Afghanistan from Pakistan after the winter break, resumed in March 1.

According to the UNHCR report issued here on Tuesday, the voluntary repatriation operation had been suspended for the winter period from December 1, 2018 until February 28, this year.

Out of the 1,528 refugees, 1,485 were entitled for cash assistance as remaining 43 had received assistance in the past.

2 killed, 11 injured in bomb blast in SW Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, May 13 (Xinhua): At least two policemen were killed and 11 others injured on Monday evening in a bomb blast in Quetta district of Pakistan's southwest Balochistan province, a provincial minister said.

Provincial Interior Minister Mir Zia Langau said the blast hit a police mobile near a market in the Satellite Town area of Quetta, the capital of Balochistan.

Current economic crisis due to corruption, mismanagement of previous rulers

ISLAMABAD, May 13 (APP): Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan Monday said the country plunged into present economic crisis due to corruption and mismanagement of the previous rulers.

In a statement, she said that Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf government would overcome the present economic challenges with its reformation programme and put the country on road towards development and prosperity.

Pakistan secures preliminary deal for $6B IMF bailout

ISLAMABAD (AP) — The International Monetary Fund said Sunday it reached a preliminary agreement with Pakistan for a $6 billion bailout over the next three years to finance sweeping economic reforms.

Pakistan and the international lender reached a “staff level agreement” subject to approval by the IMF management and the executive board, IMF envoy Ernesto Ramirez Rigo said in a statement.

Karachi, May 11; PTI/GANASHAKTI:  At least three heavily-armed militants on Saturday stormed a five-star hotel in Pakistan's port city of Gwadar in the restive Balochistan province, leading to a shootout with security personnel, police said.

Additional police force, anti-terrorism force and army are all present at the Peal Continental (PC) Hotel to handle the situation, Dawn news quoted Gwadar Station House Officer (SHO) Aslam Bangulzai as saying.
