1 in 5 children globally does not have enough water to meet every day need : UNICEF

ISLAMABAD, Mar 21 (APP): The United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) revealed that more than 1.42 billion people including 450 million children across the world live in areas of high, or extremely high, water vulnerability.

This means that 1 in 5 children worldwide do not have enough water to meet their everyday needs’ said UNICEF analysis report .

The new released analysis – part of Water Security for All initiative – identifies areas where physical water scarcity risks overlap with poor water service levels.

Pakistan PM tests positive for COVID-19 after first dose of vaccine

20 Mar 2021; MEMO: Pakistan's Prime Minister Imran Khan has tested positive for COVID-19, his office confirmed on Saturday, Anadolu Agency reports.

Khan is self-isolating at home, the premier's office said on Twitter.

The news comes just days after the prime minister received his first dose of the Chinese Sinopharm vaccine on Thursday.

Talking to journalist, Hafiz Ashrafi, who is also Chairman, Pakistan Ulema Council (PUC) stressed for redoubling the efforts to seek political solution on the issue of Yemen issue.

Pakistan records highest single-day spike in coronavirus cases this year

Islamabad, Mar 20 (PTI) Pakistan on Saturday recorded its highest single-day increase in the coronavirus infections this year with 3,876 new cases as the positivity rate reached 9.4 per cent in the country.

The national tally of cases reached 623,135 while the death toll jumped to 13,799 as 40 patients died in the last 24 hours, the health ministry said.

The data showed that 579,760 people recovered so far but some 2,122 were in a critical condition.

Pakistan invites Kuwait to benefit from CPEC’s emerging opportunities

Pakistan PM says Iran can meet Pakistan's energy needs

18 Mar 2021; MEMO: Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan said Iran, as a rich source of energy, has the capacity to meet Pakistan's energy needs.

"The Islamic Republic of Iran is our neighbour and a rich source of energy through which Pakistan's energy needs can be met," Khan said at the inaugural session of the two-day Islamabad Security Dialogue yesterday.

Pakistan wants to promote bilateral ties with Bangladesh: President

ISLAMABAD, Mar 16 (APP): President Dr Arif Alvi on Tuesday said Pakistan highly valued its ties with Bangladesh and wanted to further expand cooperation by using the existing bilateral mechanisms.

He stressed the need for improving commercial and cultural relations with Bangladesh and promoting Political Consultations at Foreign Secretary Level and Joint Economic Commission.

The President made these remarks while talking to the Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Bangladesh Imran Ahmed Siddiqui here at the Aiwan-e-Sadr.

Pakistan joins OIC in observing int’l day to combat Islamophobia

ISLAMABAD, March 15 (APP): Pakistan on Monday joined the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in observing the first-ever ‘International Day to Combat Islamophobia.’

Pakistan, in line with vision of Prime Minister Imran Khan, had presented a resolution to designate March 15vas ‘International Day to Combat Islamophobia’, at the 47th Session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM), held in Niamey, Niger, on 27-28 November 2020.

Pakistan welcomes formation of Govt of National Unity in Libya

ISLAMABAD, Mar 14 (APP): The Foreign Office Spokesman Sunday said Pakistan welcomed the endorsement by the Libyan Parliament to the cabinet proposed by the Prime Minister-designate of Libya and the successful formation of the Government of National Unity.

In a statement he said, “We wish the Libyan parliamentary and political leaderships every success.”

Pakistan imposes partial lockdown in some areas

ISLAMABAD — Amid a third wave of the coronavirus that is gripping Pakistan’s largest province, Punjab, and the northern part of the country, Pakistani health and administrative authorities have imposed a partial lockdown in affected areas.

Punjab authorities fined scores of marriage halls and restaurants for violating restrictions imposed again to fight the virus.

Officials in the capital, Islamabad, warned citizens that they must wear face masks and maintain social distancing in public.

Pakistan has reported 605,200 cases, including 13,508 deaths.
