U.S. oil off lows after falling over 20% to levels unseen since 1999

SINGAPORE (Reuters) - Crude oil futures fell on Monday, with U.S. futures dropping more than 10% to levels unseen since 1999 amid concerns that U.S. storage facilities will soon be brimful with demand evaporating due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The volume of oil held in U.S. storage, especially at Cushing, Oklahoma, the delivery point for the U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) contract, is rising as refiners throttle back activity due to slumping demand.

Singapore reports 942 new COVID-19 cases in biggest daily jump, total reaches 5,992

(Reuters) - Singapore’s health ministry confirmed 942 new coronavirus infections on Saturday, a new daily record, taking the total number of COVID-19 cases in the city-state to 5,992.

The vast majority of the new cases are of “work permit” holders living in foreign worker dormitories, the health ministry said in a statement on Saturday.

Oil climbs as Trump lays out reopening of virus-hit US

SINGAPORE, April 17 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Oil prices pushed higher Friday as President Donald Trump’s plan for a reopening of the virus-battered United States offset worries about a devastating supply shock triggered by the pandemic.

Brent crude, the international benchmark, was up nearly three percent in Asian trade at $28.65 a barrel while US benchmark WTI rose 0.6 percent to $19.99 a barrel — but still around its lowest level since 2002.

Oil markets tracked a rise in Asian stock markets and on Wall Street overnight.

Singapore PM Promises To Take Care Of Foreign Workers

SINGAPORE, April 10 (NNN-CNA) – Singapore Prime Minister, Lee Hsien Loong, promised, the state would do its best to take care of foreign workers’ health, livelihood and welfare here, and to let them go home, safe and sound, to their family members.

He said that, Singapore appreciates the work and contributions of foreign workers here, and feels responsible for their well-being.

The prime minister said, COVID-19 outbreaks were seen in several foreign worker dormitories. “Many dorms have many cases,” he added.

Oil rallies as deal takes shape before key meeting

Singapore, Apr 9 (AFP/PTI) Oil prices extended gains Thursday after Russia signalled it was ready to cut output before a key producers' meeting aimed at boosting energy markets as the coronavirus pandemic strangles demand.

US benchmark West Texas Intermediate rose 4.6 per cent to USD 26.26 a barrel, while Brent crude, the international benchmark, jumped 2.7 per cent to USD 33.73.

Oil prices fall as doubts grow over output cut deal

Singapore, Apr 6 (AFP/PTI) Oil prices fell sharply Monday after a meeting to discuss output cuts between OPEC and its allies was delayed, dimming hopes of swift action to support coronavirus-ravaged energy markets.

US benchmark West Texas Intermediate plunged eight per cent at the open in Asia but clawed back some ground and was trading 5.7 percent lower, at USD 26.72 a barrel.

International benchmark Brent crude was down 4.3 per cent to trade at USD 32.64 per barrel.

Singapore identifies one more foreign workers dorm as new corona cluster

SINGAPORE, April 6 (NNN-BERNAMA) – Singapore which placed two foreign workers’ dormitories as isolation areas on Sunday has identified another dormitory as a new cluster.

The new cluster of Tampines Dormitory at Tampines Place has so far reported three new confirmed cases, said a statement issued by the republic’s Ministry of Health (MOH) late Sunday.

MOH said the two isolated dormitories, S11@Punggol of Seletar North Link meanwhile has to date a total of 63 cases while Westlite Toh Guan of Toh Guan Road East has 28 confirmed cases.

Oil drops on oversupply worries as Saudi Arabia, Russia delay meeting

SINGAPORE (Reuters) - Oil prices slipped on Monday, after Saudi Arabia and Russia delayed a meeting to discuss output cuts that could partly alleviate oversupply in global markets as the coronavirus pandemic pummels demand.

Brent crude LCoc1 slipped close to $30 a barrel in early trade and was at $33.45 by 0532 GMT, down 66 cents, or 1.9%. West Texas Intermediate crude CLc1 fell 98 cents, or 3.5%, to $27.36 a barrel, after earlier touching a low of $25.28.

Singapore flags $3.5 billion in economic spending to combat coronavirus

SINGAPORE (Reuters) - Singapore unveiled S$5.1 billion ($3.55 billion) in additional economic spending such as wage support, waiver of levies and one-off payments to combat the coronavirus pandemic.

“This is an unprecedented budget for extraordinary times,” Finance Minister Heng Swee Keat told parliament on Monday, just over a week after the city-state unveiled more than $30 billion in new support measures as it braces for its worst recession. [L4N2BJ020]
