02 May 2023; MEMO: Sudan's warring military factions agreed, on Tuesday, in principle to a seven-day ceasefire from Thursday, South Sudan announced, as more air strikes and shooting in the Khartoum region disrupted the latest short-term truce, Reuters reports.

A statement released by the Foreign Ministry of South Sudan, which had offered to mediate in the conflict, said its President, Salva Kiir, stressed the importance of a longer truce and of naming envoys to peace talks, to which both sides had agreed.

02 May 2023; MEMO: The ongoing conflict in Sudan has caused over 330,000 people to become displaced within the country and over 100,000 others to escape through the borders, the United Nations has revealed.

According to a situation report by the UN's International Organisation for Migration (IOM), "the total estimate of displaced individuals across Sudan has reached 334,053".

KHARTOUM, May 1 (Reuters) - The United Nations warned on Monday that 800,000 people may flee Sudan as rival military factions battled in the capital despite a supposed ceasefire and foreign states wound down evacuations.

Hundreds of people have been killed and thousands wounded over 16 days of battles since disputes between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) erupted into conflict on April 15.

KHARTOUM, April 30 (Xinhua) -- The conflict in Sudan entered a third week on Saturday despite a 72-hour ceasefire extension reached a day earlier.

On early Saturday, the capital of Khartoum and its adjacent cities, Bahri and Omdurman, were hit by air strikes, anti-aircraft weaponry, and artillery.

The weeks-long conflict between Sudan's military factions has caused a humanitarian crisis in the country, sent a geopolitical shockwave that reverberates through the region, and prompted many countries to rush to evacuate their citizens.

29 Apr 2023; MEMO: The United Nations (UN) revealed on Friday that at least 40,000 refugees had fled the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, in search of a safe place, following armed clashes in mid-April.

This statement was made in a speech delivered by the UNHCR Representative in Sudan Axel Bisschop, at a press conference in Geneva, Switzerland.

Bisschop warned of the dangers facing the forcibly displaced people in Sudan and those fleeing the intensified fighting, including refugees in Sudanese cities.

KHARTOUM, April 27 (Reuters) - Sudan's army and a paramilitary force battled in Khartoum on Thursday, testing U.S. and African efforts to pause a conflict that has turned residential areas into war zones and sent tens of thousands of people fleeing for their lives.

Hundreds of people have been killed in nearly two weeks of conflict between the army and a rival paramilitary force - the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) - which are locked in a power struggle threatening to destabilise the wider region.

26 Apr 2023; MEMO: Ousted Sudanese President, Omar Al-Bashir, is being held in a Military Hospital in the capital, Khartoum, the Army confirmed on Wednesday, Anadolu News Agency reports.

A military statement said Al-Bashir was moved to Aliaa Military Hospital on the recommendation of medical staff in Kober prison before the outbreak of clashes between the Army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

26 Apr 2023; MEMO: The US confirmed, Wednesday, the death of a second American in Sudan amid ongoing violence between warring parties, Anadolu News Agency reports.

"We can confirm the death of a second American citizen yesterday. We extend our deepest condolences to the family," White House National Security spokesperson, John Kirby, told reporters.

27 Apr 2023; MEMO: Sudanese army chief, General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, has agreed "in principle" to holding talks with the commander of the rival paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (Hemedti), South Sudan's Interim Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Deng Dau Deng said yesterday.

25 Apr 2023; MEMO: Ahmed Haroun, a former Sudanese official in Omar Al-Bashir's regime, said that he escaped Kober Prison with other former officials and stated that they would be responsible for their own protection.

Haroun, who is wanted by the International Criminal Court (ICC), added in an audio statement aired on Sudan's Tayba TV channel yesterday, that he and other former officials are ready to appear before the judiciary when it is functioning.
