Tiruchirappalli, Oct 12; PTI:  Passengers of a Dubai-bound Air India Express flight had a miraculous escape when their aircraft's wheels hit a perimeter wall during take off here in the early hours of Friday, officials said.

The plane, with 136 passengers and crew members on-board, continued for Dubai and was eventually diverted to Mumbai after Trichy airport officials reported to the pilots that the aircraft might have come in contact with a wall.

Rameswaram (TN), Sept 29 (PTI) Around 1,500 fishermen from here returned to the shores without fish catch Sunday after they were allegedly driven away by Sri Lankan Navay near Katchatheevu, a fishermen association leader said.

The fishermen, who had put out to sea Saturday in over 275 mechanised boats, were fishing near Katchatheevu when the Lankan Naval personnel in four patrol vessels allegedly snapped the fishing nets of 10 boats, Mechanised Boats Fishermen Association President P Sesuraja told reporters here.

Chennai, Sep 26 (PTI) Petitions have been filed in Madras High Court challenging the detention of six of the 17 accused in a gang rape case here, under the stringent Goondas Act.

A division bench of Justices C T Selvam and Nirmal Kumar issued notices to the authorities concerned returnable in three weeks, when the petitions came up for hearing.

The marriage of Tamil Nadu MLA Ishwaran was due on 12 September and the preparations were done. Invitations had been posted, and the VIP guest list included Chief Misister, Dy Chief Minister and Speaker of the Tamil Nadu.
