Second US city slams India’s citizenship law, calling it ‘racist and repressive’

UNITED NATIONS, Feb 14 (APP): Days before President Donald Trump is due to visit India, another prominent US city — the second in a week — has denounced Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Hindu nationalistic government’s “racist and repressive” policies and called for the withdrawal of the controversial discriminatory citizenship law that it sponsored.

US warship in Arabian Sea seizes weapons suspected bound for Yemen’s Houthis

WASHINGTON, Feb 14 (NNN-AGENCIES) — A United States Navy warship seized weapons believed to be of Iranian “design and manufacture”, including 150 anti-tank guided missiles and three Iranian surface-to-air missiles, the US military said.

In a statement, the military said the guided-missile cruiser Normandy boarded a dhow, a traditional sailing vessel, in the Arabian Sea on Sunday.

U.S. Senate passes resolution limiting Trump's power to launch military operations against Iran

WASHINGTON, Feb. 13 (Xinhua) -- U.S. Senate on Thursday passed a resolution curbing the U.S. president's ability to use military forces against Iran without congressional approval.

The Republican-controlled Senate voted 55-45 to pass the war powers resolution, which demands the U.S. president terminate the use of U.S. troops for hostilities against Iran without congressional approval.

Eight Republican senators joined the Democrats to support the resolution despite opposition from President Donald Trump and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.

Pentagon confirms death of one U.S. soldier in Afghanistan

WASHINGTON, Feb. 13 (Xinhua) -- U.S. Defense Department confirmed on Thursday that one U.S. soldier had died in a non-combat incident in Afghanistan.

The soldier, who was supporting Operation Freedom's Sentinel, died on Wednesday at Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan, from a non-combat related incident, said the Pentagon in a statement.

The incident is under investigation, the statement added.

USA: Warren has raised $6M since Iowa, says race is ‘wide open’

WASHINGTON (AP) — Democratic presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren says she’s raised about $6 million from online donors since last week’s first-in-the-nation caucuses, fueled by people who want to see her stay in the 2020 race despite underwhelming performances in Iowa and New Hampshire.

The Massachusetts senator told The Associated Press on Thursday that she had spoken to Senate colleagues about the primary and that “right now, it’s wide open.”

“There’s a lot of froth. It’s going to be a long process,” Warren said during an interview in the hallways of the Senate.

Trump slams ex-adviser who defended key impeachment witness

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump on Thursday lashed out against former White House chief of staff John Kelly for being disloyal after he came to the defense of a former national security aide who offered key testimony in the impeachment inquiry.

The president’s comments came after Kelly defended Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman, who was among the administration officials who raised concerns about Trump’s July phone call with Ukraine’s president. That call spurred the president’s impeachment trial, which ended in acquittal last week.
