Death Toll From Venezuela Landslide Rose To 36

CARACAS, Oct 11 (NNN-ABN) – The weekend landslide in Venezuela’s north central state of Aragua, has killed 36 by yesterday afternoon, with 56 persons still missing, Minister for Internal Relations, Justice, and Peace, Remigio Ceballos, said.

The Venezuelan government has distributed 300 tonnes of food and water in the affected area, he said, adding that, more than 3,000 members of the police and fire departments, the Civil Protection agency and the Bolivarian National Armed Forces have been deployed, to help with the recovery efforts.

Venezuela calls on UNESCO to protect cultural rights against sanctions

Russia-Ukraine conflict: Venezuela joins Mexico’s initiative for ceasefire in Ukraine

CARACAS, Sept 26 (NNN-TELESUR) — The Venezuelan Government of Nicolás Maduro subscribed to the negotiating table formulated by Mexico to put an end to tensions between Russia and Ukraine, a conflict that has been active for seven months since Feb 24.

The Venezuelan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Carlos Rafael Faría Tortosa, assured that his country adheres to the peace proposal designed by the Government of Mexico and which was presented on Sept 23 before the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN).

Venezuela says U.S. sanctions causing emigration spike

CARACAS, Sept. 20 (Xinhua) -- Sanctions imposed by the United States are driving more Venezuelans to emigrate to neighboring countries, Venezuelan Labor Minister Francisco Torrealba told the United Nations Human Rights Council on Tuesday.

The official made the remarks while presenting a Venezuelan report on the International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families, in Geneva.

Venezuela's migratory flow is atypical, extraordinary and induced, the minister stressed, saying U.S. sanctions were to blame.

Venezuela strongly rejects U.S. listing of drug producing, trafficking countries

CARACAS, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) -- Venezuela "strongly" rejected a recent White House memorandum that listed it as one of the countries involved in drug production or trafficking, the Venezuelan Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Saturday.

The memorandum issued on Thursday accuses more than 20 countries of being "major drug transit or major illicit drug producing countries."

The memorandum is of an "interfering nature" and has no legal status, the Venezuelan Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.

Venezuela: OPEC and allies alert to changes in crude oil market: official

CARACAS, Sept. 14 (Xinhua) -- The secretary general of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), Haitham Al-Ghais, on Wednesday said the bloc and its allies remain "alert" to any possible changes in the global oil and gas market during his visit to Venezuela.

The OPEC and non-OPEC Ministerial Meeting is "ready to convene as soon as needed to agree on any changes in market conditions, if necessary," Al-Ghais said.

Colombia-Venezuela border to reopen Sept. 26: Maduro

CARACAS, Sept. 9 (Xinhua) -- Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro on Friday announced the joint reopening on Sept. 26 of the border between his country and neighboring Colombia.

"I am very happy to announce that as of #26Sep we will jointly open the borders between Venezuela and Colombia," the Venezuelan president shared on Twitter.

Flights from the capital Caracas and the northern city of Valencia to Colombia's capital Bogota will also resume, he added.

Venezuelans Protest Sanctions, Illegal Seizures Of Nation’s Assets

CARACAS, Aug 10 (NNN-ABN) – Thousands of Venezuelans marched through the streets of the capital, Caracas yesterday, to protest U.S.-led sanctions and illegal seizures of the nation’s financial and nonfinancial assets.

About 10,000 protesters took part in the demonstration called by the government, to press for the recovery of the assets, the transportation minister and president of state-run airline Conviasa, Ramon Velasquez Araguayan, told the publicly-owned Venezolana de Television.

Venezuela, Colombia border towns expectant of changes

SAN JUAN DE COLON, Venezuela (AP) — The freight company owned by Alfredo Rosales and his brothers was hustling, its 50 or so trucks constantly on the go hauling about 1 million tons of coal, cement, flour and other goods every year in commerce between Venezuela and Colombia.

Their work came to an abrupt halt in 2015, when the socialist government of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro shut down border crossings with its neighbor after years of deterioriating relations with conservative Colombian administrations.
