India: Amit Shah is trying to incite violence in Bengal: Mamata

Jamalpur/ Memari/Bardhaman (WB), Apr 9 (PTI) West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday alleged Home Minister Amit Shah was trying to incite violence in the state and egging the police to engage in unethical acts.

Alleging that Shah was behind the attack on the TMC candidate of Mathabhanga seat as the BJP will lose the election, the Trinamool Congress supremo claimed that he will plan to kill her for speaking these in public.

India: TMC hits out at EC over notice to Mamata

Kolkata, Apr 7 (PTI) The Trinamool Congress on Wednesday hit out at the Election Commission over its notice to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, seeking to know what action the poll panel has taken on the complaints filed against the BJP.

TMC spokesperson Mahua Moitra said the EC should "at least keep up the farce of impartiality".

India: CRPF harassing voters in Bengal at Shah's behest: Mamata

Baneswar (WB), Apr 7 (PTI) West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday alleged that the CRPF personnel are harassing voters in the state at the behest of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Addressing a rally here in Cooch Behar district, she accused personnel of the central force of molesting women and beating people during the ongoing assembly elections.

"They are obstructing electors to cast their votes.

Chunchura (WB), Apr 5 (PTI) West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Monday asserted that she would win the ongoing state polls despite injury and eventually aim for power in Delhi.

Training her guns at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, Banerjee who is seeking a third term in office said that West Bengal will be ruled by its own people.

Terming herself as a Royal Bengal Tiger, the TMC chief said, West Bengal will not be ruled by anyone from Gujarat.

India: Jaya Bachchan stumps for TMC in Bengal election

Kolkata, Apr 5 (PTI) Hailing West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee as a fighter who is single-handedly battling against all atrocities, veteran actor and Samajwadi Party MP Jaya Bachchan on Monday took a swipe at the BJP, saying no one has ever succeeded by "intimidating" Bengalis.

The wife of Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan said she is in Bengal to campaign for the TMC as per instructions of her party president Akhilesh Yadav, who has extended support to Mamata Banerjee in the polls.

India: Nadda rallies in Bengal cancelled

Kolkata, April 5 (PTI) The BJP on Monday cancelled both the rallies of party president J P Nadda in Hooghly district after he had to rush back to New Delhi for an "urgent meeting".

The BJP party chief's meeting at Sreerampur in the morning was cancelled due to unknown reasons.

Nadda, however, participated in a roadshow in the afternoon to canvass for Union minister Babul Supriyo and actress Payal Sarkar, a poll debutant, who are contesting from Tollygunge and Behala Purba assembly constituencies respectively.

India: Mamata hits back at Modi over second seat contest dig

Dinhata (WB), Apr 2 (PTI) Asserting that she was winning the election from Nandigram, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday hit back at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said that she does not need his "suggestion" on contesting from any other seat.

The prime minister had on Thursday asked Banerjee to clarify whether there is truth in the "rumours" that she was going to file the nomination for another seat going to the polls in the last phase, maintaining that the TMC chief has admitted defeat in Nandigram.

India: BJP candidate thrashed in Diamond Harbour, 2 arrested

Baruipur (WB), Apr 2 (PTI) A BJP candidate and his supporters were allegedly thrashed in West Bengal's South 24 Parganas during their election campaign on Friday morning, police said.

BJP's Diamond Harbour candidate Dipak Halder was campaigning in the Haridebpur area around 9.30 am when his supporters got engaged in a war of words with a few people, they said.

Amid the verbal duel, Halder and his supporters were allegedly thrashed with sticks, police said.

India: West Bengal contributes highest to small savings schemes

New Delhi, Apr 2 (PTI) West Bengal, which is the midst of a high-pitched assembly election, accounts for the highest collection of about Rs 90,000 crore from small savings schemes such as NSC and PPF among the states and union territories, which is about 15 per cent of the total corpus.

It is followed by Uttar Pradesh, the largest state in terms of population, with gross collection of Rs 69,660.70 crore out of the Rs 5.96 lakh crore garnered during 2017-18 (last updated), as per data collated by the National Savings Institute under the finance ministry.
