Turkey: Erdogan calls for repairing ties with Egypt

03 June 2021; MEMO: Turkey is working to repair its ties with Egypt and some Gulf States and seeks cooperation on a "win-win basis", President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Tuesday.

"Our desire is to use these opportunities for cooperation at the maximum level and improve our ties on a win-win basis … The same situation is valid for all Gulf countries too," Reuters reported Erdogan telling state broadcaster TRT Haber.

USA: Bill to remove per country cap on Green Card introduced in US Congress

Washington, Jun 3 (PTI) A bipartisan legislation has been introduced in the US House of Representatives to eliminate the per country cap on employment-based Green Card, a move which is likely to benefit Indian IT professionals languishing over decades of waiting for the Permanent Resident Card.

The legislation was introduced by Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren and Congressman John Curtis.

Mehul Choksi denied bail by Dominica magistrate

New Delhi, Jun 3 (PTI) A Dominica magistrate has denied bail to absconding diamond tycoon Mehul Choksi, who was arrested on May 23 for alleged illegal entry to the Caribbean island country, the local media reported.

Choksi, wanted here in connection with a Rs 13,500-crore fraud in the Punjab National Bank (PNB), pleaded before the magistrate that he was abducted and forcibly brought to Dominica from neighbouring Antigua and Barbuda, about 100 nautical miles away, Dominica News Online reported.

India: Kerala retains top rank in Niti Aayog's SDG India Index 2020-21, Bihar worst performer

New Delhi, Jun 3 (PTI) Kerala has retained the top rank in Niti Aayog's SDG India Index 2020-21, while Bihar has been adjudged as the worst performer, according to a report released on Thursday

The Index for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) evaluates progress of states and union territories on social, economic and environmental parameters.

Kerala retained its rank as the top state with a score of 75. Both Himachal Pradesh and Tamil Nadu took the second spot with a score of 74.

Libya at 'crucial turning point' toward political stability, says Italy FM

02 June 2021; MEMO: Libya is at a crucial turning point in the political stabilisation process, Italian Foreign Minister, Luigi Di Maio, announced yesterday.

"To Italy, the Government of National Unity represents the whole Libyan nation, through which we can coordinate our investment plans on Libyan soil," Di Maio said during the Italian-Libyan Business Forum held in the Italian capital city of Rome.

BRICS foreign ministers hold virtual meeting

New Delhi, Jun 1 (PTI) External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Tuesday highlighted the key principles guiding the five-nation grouping BRICS and referred to international law and the UN Charter that recognises the sovereign equality of all states, and respects their territorial integrity.

In his address at a virtual ministerial meeting of the BRICS, Jaishankar said desired change can be achieved only by conducting policies in accordance with these principles.

India: Union Cabinet approves Model Tenancy Act

New Delhi, Jun 2 (PTI) The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved the Model Tenancy Act, a move that will help overhaul the legal framework with respect to rental housing across the country.

In a statement, the government said that it is expected to give a fillip to private participation in rental housing as a business model for addressing the huge housing shortage.

India: Google claims new IT rules not applicable to its search engine

New Delhi, Jun 2 (PTI) US-based Google LLC has contended that India's new IT rules for digital media are not applicable to its search engine, and urged the Delhi High Court on Wednesday to set aside its single judge order which applied them on the company while dealing with an issue related to removal of offending content from the internet.

2 Turkey firms to operate 3 Azerbaijan mines

01 June 2021; MEMO: Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev signed an order on Saturday to transfer the operations of the country's three mineral mines to two Turkish companies, Anadolu reports.

The Qasqacay, Elbeydas and Agduzdag mines were transferred for the purpose of study, research, exploration, development and exploitation based on a 30-year contract, the report said.
