India: Bombardier Transport India bags contract for supply of train-sets for Kanpur, Agra Metro

Lucknow, July 3 (PTI) Bombardier Transport India has bagged a contract for the supply of 67 trains of three cars each for Kanpur and Agra Metro projects, according to an official statement.

The Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) has awarded the contract for supply, testing and commissioning of 201 cars along with train control and signalling system to Bombardier Transport India Pvt. Limited.

Four international firms had submitted bids for the contract in February this year.

Air France announces 7,500 job cuts

Kuwait, Saudi Arabia restart production at Khafji field

03 July 2020; MEMO: Production has resumed at the Al-Khafji joint oil field located in the neutral zone between Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, the acting CEO of the Kuwait Gulf Oil Company said Thursday, Anadolu reports.

Output at the field had been suspended since June 1 according to a decision by the Khafji Operations Joint Executive Committee, Abdullah Al-Sumaiti said in a press release.

Lebanon blocks Iran cargo ships from docking over US sanctions fears

02 July 2020; MEMO: Iranian cargo ships in Lebanese waters have been prevented from docking and unloading over fears the move may lead to the extension of US sanctions onto the Mediterranean state, according to a report by Al-Hurra.

The imports include foodstuffs, medicine and fuel, among other items and are intended to help alleviate the deteriorating living standards in Lebanon as the country faces its worst economic crisis since the end of the civil war in 1990.

Saudi Arabia takes another step in development of domestic arms industry

02 July 2020; MEMO: Saudi Arabia has taken another step in its long-held ambition to develop a domestic arms industry. An agreement has been signed in Riyadh between government officials and industry bosses that will see the Kingdom reach one of its key objectives.

The deal between the Saudi General Directorate of the Border Guard and the Military Industries Corporation (MIC) will see a new vehicle, known as the Dahna, being built in the country.

USA: If elected, will revoke H1-B visa suspension: Joe Biden

Washington, Jul 2 (PTI) Democratic presidential candidate and former US vice president Joe Biden has said that he will lift the temporary suspension on H-1B visas, the most sought-after by Indian IT professionals, if he wins the November presidential elections.

On June 23, in a huge blow to Indian IT professionals eyeing the US job market, the Trump administration suspended the H-1B visas along with other types of foreign work visas until the end of 2020 to protect American workers in a crucial election year.
