India: Tata Nano ends 2019 with zero production, sales of 1 unit

New Delhi, Jan 6 (PTI) Tata Motors did not produce a single unit of its entry-level car Nano in 2019 although it sold just one unit in February even as the company is yet to officially retire Ratan Tata's "people's car".

According to a regulatory filing by the company, Tata Motors had zero production and sales of the Nano in December 2019 while it produced 82 units and sold 88 units in December 2018.

India: Sensex nosedives 788 pts on US-Iran standoff

Mumbai, Jan 6 (PTI) The BSE benchmark Sensex crashed by nearly 788 points and the NSE Nifty tumbled around 234 points on Monday as heightened tensions in the Middle East kept investors on edge.

The 30-share BSE index ended at 40,676.63, dropping of 787.98 points, or 1.90 per cent. Similarly, the broader Nifty closed at 11,993.05, falling by 233.60 points, or 1.91 per cent.

On the Sensex chart, Bajaj Finance was the top loser, dropping 4.63 per cent, followed by SBI, IndusInd Bank, Maruti, HDFC, Hero MotoCorp, Axis Bank, ICICI Bank and Reliance Industries.

India: Six of top-10 firms lose Rs 26,624 cr in m-cap

New Delhi, Jan 5 (PTI) Six of the 10 most valued Indian companies suffered a combined erosion of Rs 26,624.10 crore in market valuation last week, dragged down by ICICI Bank.

Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), HDFC Bank, HUL, Kotak Mahindra Bank and SBI were the other bluechips which saw a drop in their market capitalisation (m-cap) for the week ended Friday, while TCS, HDFC, Infosys and ITC ended in the green.

ICICI Bank's valuation tumbled Rs 6,883.44 crore to Rs 3,48,532.24 crore, taking the steepest hit among the top-10 firms.

India: Petrol, diesel prices up for 4th straight day as US strike roils oil market

New Delhi, Jan 5 (PTI) Petrol and diesel prices rose for the fourth straight day on Sunday as global oil prices jumped after the US killed a top Iranian general, fanning fresh fears of conflict in the crude-rich Middle East.

Retail pump price of petrol was hiked by 9 paise per litre and that of diesel by 11 paise, according to a price notification of state-owned fuel retailers.

Petrol in Delhi now costs Rs 75.54 per litre -- the highest in more than a year, while a litre of diesel comes for Rs 68.51.

Lebanese Gov’t Receives 1st Shipment Of Gasoline To Secure Supplies

BEIRUT, Jan 5 (NNN-NNA) – The Lebanese government received its first shipment of gasoline on Saturday, as the government hopes to become a key player in oil supply in Lebanon.

Lebanese Water and Energy Minister, Nada Boustani said, the government received 24,000 tonnes of fuel, with other vessels expected to arrive soon.

Stocks of fuel have started to be distributed to the local market to be sold in Lebanese pounds.

Russia halts oil supplies to Belarus amid economic talks

Minsk (Belarus), Jan 3 (AP) Russia has halted oil supplies to Belarus after the two countries failed to renegotiate a contract amid talks on further improving economic ties.

Belarus' state-owned Belneftekhim oil company said Friday that Moscow has stopped supplying crude oil to the country's refineries until contracts for this year are drawn up.

The two Belarusian refineries were operating at low capacity, running on reserves from last year.

India: Shirdi Sai temple earns Rs 17.42 cr in 11 days

Shirdi, Jan 4 (PTI) The 11-day holiday rush saw over 8 lakh visitors thronging the Saibaba Temple in Shirdi, which received Rs 17.42 crore in donations, Shri Saibaba Sansthan Trust (SSST) said on Saturday.

From December 23 last year to January 2, as many as 8.23 lakh devotees visited the famed temple at Shirdi in Maharashtra's Ahmednagar district, the trust's chief executive officer Deepak Mugalikar said.

Malaysia will continue its claims in South China Sea, says FM Saifuddin

PUTRAJAYA, Jan 3 (NNN-BERNAMA) — Malaysia will maintain its claim in the disputed South China Sea area despite China’s objection to Malaysia’s submission of the claim to the United Nations last month, said Foreign Minister Saifuddin Abdullah. 

The minister said the ministry has expected Beijing’s move and described it as “normal”.

“For China to object is something that we expect, even before. This is normal. I’m not saying we are okay on it…but it is our claim and we will maintain our claim,” he told a press conference at Wisma Putra, here, Friday. 

French government huddles as unions vow to harden strike

PARIS, Jan 4 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Top French officials met to hash out their strategy ahead of fresh pension overhaul talks with unions who have threatened wider protests alongside a crippling transport strike now it its fifth week.

“The government is at work to try to find a way toward a rapid compromise,” spokeswoman Sibeth Ndiaye told France 2 television as Prime Minister Edouard Philippe gathered ministers for the unscheduled meeting.
