India: Sikkim wants Centre to withdraw notification opening up peaks

Gangtok/Kolkata, Aug 27 (PTI) The Sikkim government has urged the Centre to withdraw its notification which opened up 24 peaks of the state to mountaineers, a top official said.

The Centre has recently allowed mountaineering and trekking in 137 peaks across the country, including 24 peaks in Sikkim, in a bid to boost tourism.

Boeing delivers 11th C-17 Globemaster to Indian Air Force

New Delhi, Aug 26 (PTI) American aerospace major Boeing on Monday delivered the 11th C-17 Globemaster III transport aircraft to the Indian Air Force, boosting its strategic airlift capabilities.

The C-17 Globemaster III is a premier transport aircraft. The massive, sturdy, long-haul aircraft can carry large combat equipment, troops and humanitarian aid across long distances in all weather conditions.

Asian markets rise on optimism about US-China trade war

TOKYO (AP) — Asian shares rose Tuesday as investors found reason to be cautiously optimistic again about the potential for progress in the costly trade war between the U.S. and China.

Japan’s benchmark Nikkei 225 rose 1.1% in afternoon trading to 20,491.03. Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 added 0.6% to 6,481.60, while South Korea’s Kospi gained 0.7% to 1,930.54. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng inched up 0.1% to 25,707.14. The Shanghai Composite added 1.7% to 2,911.62.

Australia To Spend 10 Million USD On Fast Chargers For Electric Vehicles

CANBERRA, Australia, Aug 26 (NNN-AGENCIES) – The Australian government will invest 15 million Australian dollars (10.08 million U.S. dollars) in a network of fast-charging stations, for electric vehicles.

Nigeria to build 4million houses by 2023 – Minister

ABUJA, Aug 25 (NNN-NAN) — The Nigerian Federal Government promised to address housing deficit by delivering one million houses per year to close the 17 million shortfall by the year 2033.

The Minister of State, Works and Housing, Abubakar Aliyu, disclosed this in Abuja on Saturday during an inspection of the Federal Housing Authority (FHA) mass housing project in Zuba, Federal Capital Territory.

Aliyu said the government had decided to improve on current construction of 100,000 houses per years in order to meet the basic needs of the people.

US sanctions won’t harm Russian economy more than trade wars, experts say

MOSCOW, Aug 26 (NNN-BERNAMA-TASS) — The second round of US sanctions imposed on Russia over the so-called Skripal case is entering into force.

Experts interviewed by TASS believe that the new restrictions won’t harm Russia’s economy more than trade wars, including the one between the US and China, and oil market volatility.

The new sanctions prohibit US banks “from participating in the primary market for non-ruble denominated Russian sovereign debt and lending non-ruble denominated funds to the Russian government.”

Iran’s FM starts China visit

New Delhi, Aug 25 (PTI) Industry body CII on Sunday said the multi-sectoral and multi-dimensional policy stimulus announced last week will have significant impact, imparting stability and underpinning a new growth impetus for India.
