Iran says it has sold oil from tanker released by Gibraltar

GENEVA (Reuters) - Iran has sold the oil from a tanker released by Gibraltar after weeks in the custody of British Royal Marines and the vessel’s owner will decide on its next destination, IRIB news agency quoted an Iranian government spokesman as saying on Monday.

He did not identify the recipient of the oil. After Gibraltar freed the Adrian Darya tanker on Aug. 18, the United States said it would take every action it could to prevent it delivering oil to Syria - the original stated reason for its detention - in contravention of U.S. sanctions.

Trump sends mixed messages to China on trade war

Egypt loses 53,000 acres of farm land in 8 years

24 Aug 2019; MEMO: Egypt’s Agricultural Ministry has said that the country lost 53,000 acres of farm land between January 2011 and August 2019, Alraimedia.com reported yesterday.

Citing a report by the Central Administration for Land Protection, the ministry said that it registered 1.9 million violations against fertile land.

Though the ministry regained control of some of this land, some 53,592 acres of fertile land remain out of the ministry’s control.

India: NCP says Sitharaman's sops for economy came too late

Mumbai, Aug 23 (PTI) The Nationalist Congress Party said on Friday that the measures announced by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to prop up the slowing economy came too late.

Commenting on Sitharaman's announcements, NCP spokesperson Mahesh Tapase said there was no "roadmap of growth".

"The announcements have come very late and at a time when the economy is facing uncertainty and there is no roadmap of growth," he said.

US stocks tumble as US-China trade war rattles investors

USA (AP) — The Dow Jones Industrial Average plunged more than 600 points Friday after the latest escalation in the trade war between the U.S. and China rattled investors. The broad sell-off sent the S&P 500 to its fourth straight weekly loss.

Stocks tumbled after President Donald Trump responded angrily on Twitter following China’s announcement of new tariffs on $75 billion in U.S. goods. In one of his tweets he “hereby ordered” U.S. companies with operations in China to consider moving them to other countries — including the U.S.
