New EU leaders will not change course on Brexit: Tusk

Brussels, Jul 3 (AFP/PTI) Senior EU chiefs on Tuesday warned Britain the bloc's new leadership would not change course and offer concessions on the Brexit deal struck with London.

European Council President Donald Tusk said Tuesday he was "absolutely sure" the new leaders chosen after marathon summit talks would not waver.

Both men running to succeed British Prime Minister Theresa May -- Boris Johnson and Jeremy Hunt -- say they want to renegotiate the divorce agreement thrashed out with the EU.

Asian shares mostly lower after fresh S&P 500 record high

TOKYO (AP) — Shares were mostly lower in Asia on Wednesday as the euphoria from President Donald Trump’s truce with China’s Xi Jinping on trade faded.

The retreat followed yet another all-time high for the S&P 500 index, though trading in U.S. markets has been subdued ahead of an early closure on Wednesday for the July 4 holiday.

Non-OPEC producers endorse supply cut extension

VIENNA, July 2 (Xinhua) -- Ten non-OPEC oil producing countries led by Russia endorsed on Tuesday the decision by the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) to extend production cuts until next March.

They made the agreement during the 6th OPEC and non-OPEC Ministerial Meeting held here in Austrian capital.

Russian trade ministry signs special investment contracts with carmakers

MOSCOW, July 3. /TASS/: The Russian Industry and Trade Ministry has signed special investment contracts (SPICs) with automobile companies Volkswagen, GM-Avtovaz, PSA, Volvo, Toyota and Avtotor, the ministry said in a statement.

"The SPICs that were signed will allow to attract over 100 billion rubles to the Russian economy in the form of private investment by the world’s leading automobile concerns and to localize the production of key elements: engines, transmissions and car control systems," the statement quoted Russian Industry and Trade Minister Denis Manturov as saying.

Xi urged Trump to ease North Korea sanctions in 'timely' fashion

2 July 2019; AFP: Chinese President Xi Jinping urged US President Donald Trump to "show flexibility" towards North Korea, including the "timely" easing of sanctions, at the G20 summit last week, China's foreign minister said Tuesday.

Xi visited North Korea prior to meeting Trump at the G20 in Japan on Saturday, and analysts had said the Chinese leader could use the trip as leverage in his trade war talks with the US leader.

Sweden takes a step closer to being smoke-free by 2025

2 July 2019; DW: Sweden took a step closer to becoming a smoke-free nation on Monday with the introduction of new laws regarding smoking in public places.

As of July 1, Swedes were no longer able to light up in certain public spaces, such as playgrounds, train stations and even outside restaurants and bars. The ban has been extended to e-cigarettes.

India: Sonia opposes selling of Rae Bareli coach factory

New Delhi, Jul 2; GANASHAKTI - UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi Tuesday raised in the Lok Sabha the issue of corporatisation of railway's Modern Coach Factory in her Rae Bareli constituency and accused the government of selling the country's assets to private players at a throwaway price.

This was a rare instance when Gandhi raised an issue during the Zero Hour.

She said the government has decided to corporatise six railway production units and the Modern Coach Factory is one of them.
