Jordan's king says injustice against Palestinians must end

AMMAN, Oct. 14 (Xinhua) -- King Abdullah II of Jordan said the kingdom's position on the Palestinian cause is unwavering and injustice against the Palestinians must end.

The king made his remarks at the opening of the 3rd ordinary session of the 18th Parliament, where he said it is a must to enable the Palestinians to establish their independent, sovereign state on the 1967 border, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

On the war on terrorism, King Abdullah said Jordan remains committed to its leading role in fighting terrorism and extremism.

Time for truth to be told 'loud and clear': Rahul on #MeToo movement

New Delhi, Oct 12 (PTI) Congress chief Rahul Gandhi Friday came out in support of the #MeToo movement, saying it is time for the truth to be told "loud and clear in order to bring about change".

He did not comment on the charges of sexual harassment against Union minister M J Akbar.

It is about time that everyone learns to treat women with respect and dignity, Gandhi said on Twitter.

PM has much to hide about Rafale deal: Cong

New Delhi, Oct 14 (PTI) Continuing with its campaign against the government over the Rafale deal, the Congress Sunday claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was directly involved in it, adding that he had much to hide about it.

Questioning Modi's silence over the deal, senior Congress leader Anand Sharma claimed that only the prime minister was aware that the offset contracts would not be given to Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL).

Brisk polling going on in J-K's Samba, 60 per cent voted till 12 pm

Jammu, Oct 13 (PTI) Like first two phases, the enthusiastic voters have thronged polling stations across Samba district of Jammu region in the third phase of the urban local bodies (ULB) elections to seal the fate of 242 candidates in 56 municipal wards. 

Besides Samba, the voting is in progress in the third phase of the four-phased ULB polls in Jammu and Kashmir from 6 am covering a total of 96 wards of eight municipalities 40 wards in Kashmir valley's Anantnag, Baramulla and Srinagar districts. 

Delhi's air quality remains poor: authorities

New Delhi, Oct 14 (PTI) The air quality in Delhi remained poor Sunday with drop in wind speed even as authorities predicted further fall in air quality index of the national capital in the coming days.

The overall air quality index(AQI) recorded at 10 am Sunday stood at 208 which falls in the poor category, according to Centre-run System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR).

On Saturday, the AQI of the national capital stood at 300.

Mecca Masjid blast case judge joins TJS

Former judge K Ravinder Reddy, who quit after delivering the verdict in the Mecca Masjid blast case, has joined the Telangana Jana Samiti (TJS), part of the opposition alliance led by the Congress for the coming Assembly polls, weeks after expressing keenness to embrace the BJP.

The move is being seen as a shot in the arm for the TJS in the run-up to the December 7 polls. Reddy was welcomed into the party by TJS president M Kodandaram at an event Saturday.

Indian Forex reserves down by USD 915.8 mn to USD 399.609 bn

Mumbai, Oct 12 (PTI) The country's foreign exchange reserves declined by USD 915.8 million to USD 399.609 billion in the week to October 5 on account of a fall in foreign currency assets, according to RBI data.

In the previous week, the reserves had declined by USD 1.265 billion to USD 400.52 billion.

In the reporting week, foreign currency assets, a major component of the overall reserves, decreased by USD 1.011 billion to USD 375.231 billion, as per the RBI data.

China's foreign trade up 9.9 pct in first nine months

BEIJING, Oct. 12 (Xinhua) -- China's goods trade rose 9.9 percent year on year to 22.28 trillion yuan (about 3.23 trillion U.S. dollars) in the first nine months of the year, customs data showed Friday.

Exports increased 6.5 percent in the same period to 11.86 trillion yuan while imports grew 14.1 percent to 10.42 trillion yuan, resulting in a trade surplus of 1.44 trillion yuan, which narrowed by 28.3 percent, according to the General Administration of Customs.

India's decision on buying oil from Iran, defence system from Russia not helpful

Washington, Oct 12; PTI: India's decision to continue buying oil from Iran after November 4 and purchase the S-400 Triumf air defence system from Russia is "not helpful" and the US is reviewing it "very carefully", the State Department has said.

The US is trying to cut off all oil imports from Iran following President Donald Trump's decision in May to pull out of the 2015 multilateral deal that eased global sanctions in exchange for curbs on Iran's suspect nuclear programmes and malign activities.

Top US envoy on Iran to hold talks with India, European nations on oil import

Washington, Oct 12 :  A top US envoy on Iran will be visiting India this week for crucial talks ahead of the November 4 deadline set by the Trump administration for countries to bring down their import of Iranian oil to zero.

President Donald Trump in May pulled the US out of the 2015 nuclear accord, saying it had "failed to achieve the fundamental objective of blocking all paths to an Iranian nuclear bomb" and did not deal with Tehran's "malign activities, including its ballistic missile programme and its support for terrorism".
