UK minister leads Midlands region trade delegation to India

London, Oct 4 (PTI) Britain's Communities Secretary James Brokenshire embarked on a three-day visit to India on Thursday to promote business and technology ties of the country with the Midlands region of England.

The UK Cabinet minister, who is also the British government's Midlands Engine Champion , is set to bring together senior British and Indian officials and businesses to re-affirm a post-Brexit commitment to the Midlands-Maharashtra Technology Partnership.

India: Fuel price cut too late: Shiv Sena

Mumbai, Oct 5 (PTI) The reduction in fuel prices had come "too late", the Shiv Sena said Friday and claimed that the Centre had mopped up Rs 1 lakh crore per day when the rates of petrol and diesel were being increased daily.

It also slammed Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis for his reported remark that he was "ready to mortgage the state in Dr B R Ambedkar's service".

US, Chinese unease as Putin seeks India arms deals

U.S. terminates treaty of amity with Iran after UN court verdict

WASHINGTON, Oct. 3 (Xinhua) -- U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said here on Wednesday that the United States is terminating the 1955 Treaty of Amity with Iran, after the UN's top court ruled that Washington lift sanctions on Tehran.

Pompeo said at a press briefing that "I'm announcing that the U.S. is terminating the 1955 Treaty of Amity with Iran. This is a decision, frankly, that is 39 years overdue."

Mukesh Ambani richest Indian for 11th consecutive year: Forbes

New Delhi, Oct 4 (PTI) Reliance Industries' Chairman Mukesh Ambani has emerged as the richest Indian for the 11th consecutive year with a net worth of USD 47.3 billion, according to Forbes magazine.

Ambani is also the year's biggest gainer, adding USD 9.3 billion to his wealth amid the continuing success of his Reliance Jio broadband telco service.

India: Sensex plummets over 800 pts on sinking rupee

Mumbai, Oct 4 (PTI) The BSE benchmark Sensex plummeted over 800 points in afternoon session Thursday as rupee sank to another low amid boiling crude prices, weak global cues.

The rupee plunged to a new low of 73.81 against the dollar, while the international benchmark Brent crude breached the US 86 per barrel level, nearing its four-year high.

The BSE 30-share barometer pared some losses and was trading at 616.15 points, or 1.71 per cent, lower at 35,359.48 at 1245 hrs.

The gauge had lost nearly 550 points in the previous session Wednesday.
