India: Villagers parade cattle movers to police station in MP

Khandwa (MP), Jul 7 (PTI) Over 100 villagers tied 25 people with a rope and paraded them through a two-km stretch to a police station in Khandwa district of Madhya Pradesh on Sunday for allegedly transporting cows to Maharashtra, police said.

A video of the purported incident showed several villagers carrying sticks and forcing the alleged cattle-transporters to do sit-ups holding their ears amid cries of "Gau Mata Ki Jai".

Iran: British capture of Iranian tanker is ‘maritime robbery’

7 July 2019; MEMO: An Iranian tanker captured by British Royal Marines in Gibraltar was not headed to Syria, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said on Sunday in a press conference broadcast live on state TV, reports Reuters.

Royal Marines seized the Iraninan supertanker Grace 1 on Thursday for trying to take oil to Syria in violation of EU sanctions, a dramatic intervention described as “maritime robbery” by Araqchi.

Malta bans Sea-Eye migrant rescue ship from its waters

7 July 2019; DW: Maltese armed forces were monitoring the German-flagged rescue ship Alan Kurdi on Sunday, as the vessel was sailing toward the island nation.

"They have no permit to enter Maltese territorial waters," an army spokesman told Germany's dpa news agency.

The ship, operated by German charity Sea-Eye, has 65 migrants on board. Three of them "collapsed in the heat" and are under "acute medical care" the charity said on Twitter.

Anti-India banner flies above Headingley stadium during India-Sri Lanka match

Leeds, July 6; GANASHAKTI:  In yet another incident that has political overtone, unnamed aircrafts flew over the Headingley stadium with anti-India banners during the World Cup match between India and Sri Lanka, here Saturday.

Minutes after the match began, an aircraft carrying the banner 'Justice for Kashmir' flew above the ground.

After a half an hour, a similar looking aircraft flew over the stadium with a different banner - 'India Stop Genocide, Free Kashmir'.

India: BJP Yuva Morcha leader's wife shot dead for dowry

Barabanki (UP), Jul 7 (PTI) The wife of a BJP youth wing leader was allegedly shot dead in Fatehpur area of Uttar Pradesh's Barabanki district, police said on Sunday.

Snehlata (28), the wife of Rahul Singh, a district-level office bearer of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), was shot dead under mysterious circumstances late on Saturday night, the police said.

India: BJP MP's security men thrash toll plaza staff

Agra (UP), Jul 6 (PTI) Security men accompanying BJP MP and Scheduled Castes commission chairman Ram Shankar Katheria opened fire in the air and allegedly thrashed employees at a toll post here on Saturday, police said.

The police have registered an FIR against Katheria and another person after the early morning fracas at the toll plaza on the inner ring road.

An aide to the MP claimed that the security guards opened fire in self-defence when they were attacked at the toll plaza.

India: Teacher stopped from sacrificing girl child in Assam

Udalguri (Assam), Jul 6 (PTI) A school teacher and his family reportedly tried to sacrifice a three-year-old in their house in Udalguri district of lower Assam Saturday, but their plans were hindered when the locals intervened and informed the police and media.

The teacher and his son were injured in firing by the police who tried to control the situation, a police official said.

The situation turned violent when people of Ganakpara village in the district called in the police and the media after noticing smoke emanating from the teacher's house.
