NIA makes first attachment of separatist property in Kashmir

New Delhi, Jul 10; GANASHAKTI: The National Investigation Agency on Wednesday attached hardline Kashmiri separatist leader Asiya Andrabi's house on the outskirts of Srinagar city under the stringent UAPA anti-terror law, officials said here.

The attachment order, the first by NIA against any separatist from Kashmir Valley, was pasted outside the residence of Andrabi, the chief of the banned Dukhtaran-E-Millat group, at 90 Feet Road in Soura area.

India: Yechury questions gov intentions in targeting senior advocates

New Delhi, Jul 11; GANASHAKTI:  CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury Thursday accused the government of "targeting" former additional solicitor general Indira Jaising and her husband Anand Grover hours after the CBI began raids at their residences and offices.

The Central Bureau of Investigation is carrying out searches at Jaising's residence and offices of Lawyers Collective, an NGO run by Grover, a noted lawyer, who has been booked by the agency for alleged FCRA violations in receiving foreign aid.

Ayodhya dispute: SC seeks status on mediation within a week

New Delhi, Jul 11 (PTI) The Supreme Court on Thursday sought a fresh status report on the ongoing mediation proceedings in the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid Ayodhya land dispute case within a week and made it clear that if the vexatious issue was not resolved amicably, it would hear the matter on a day-to-day basis from July 25.

New Delhi, Jul 11 (PTI) Supreme Court lawyer Indira Jaising alleged on Thursday that she and her husband were being "targeted" by the CBI due to their work in the field of human rights, after sleuths from the central agency carried out searches at her residence and office.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is carrying out searches at the residence of former Additional Solicitor General (ASG) Jaising and the offices of Lawyers Collective, an NGO run by her husband Anand Grover, officials said.

india: Muzaffarnagar riots: 3 accused of killing youth get bail

Muzaffarnagar (UP), Jul 10 (PTI) A Muzaffarnagar court has granted bail to three persons accused of killing a youth whose death was a trigger for the Muzaffarnagar riots in 2013.

District Sessions Judge Sanjay Kumar Pachori gave bail to Prahlad, Bishan Singh and Tendu. He said the accused would be released after furnishing two sureties of Rs 1,50,000 each.

According to prosecution, the there are among the six people accused of stabbing Shahnawaz to death at Kawal village in Jansath area on August 27, 2013.

India: BJP MLA's daughter fears for life after marrying a Dalit

Bareilly (UP), Jul 10 (PTI) The daughter of an Uttar Pradesh BJP legislator has alleged that her life is in danger from her father after she married a Dalit man and asked the police for security.

Sakshi Misra (23), who is the daughter of Rajesh Misra, the MLA from Bithari Chainpur in Bareilly district, uploaded a video on social media on Wednesday and informed about her wedding to Ajitesh Kumar (29) last Thursday, police said.

India: Woman killed for dowry in UP's Muzaffarnagar

Muzaffarnagar (UP), Jul 11 (PTI) A 21-year-old woman was allegedly strangled to death by her in-laws over dowry in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar district, police said Thursday.

The woman was found dead at the house of her in-laws in Tisang village under Jansath Police Station on Wednesday, Circle Officer (CO) SN Negi said.

A complaint was lodged against seven people and four of them were arrested the same day, the CO said.

Give Indian citizenship to Tamil refugees: Demand in RS

New Delhi, Jul 10 (PTI) A demand to give Indian citizenship to Sri Lankan Tamil refugees residing in Tamil Nadu for almost three decades was made in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday.

Ahamed Hassan of the TMC made the demand through a Zero Hour mention during the brief period that the House functioned in the pre-noon session that was marred by disruptions by opposition Congress over developments in Karnataka.
