GOP senators question immigration plan presented by Kushner

WASHINGTON (AP) — An attempt by presidential senior adviser and son-in-law Jared Kushner to win support for a White House immigration plan produced uncertain results Tuesday as Republican senators raised questions.

After Kushner and others described the proposal at a Capitol Hill lunch with GOP lawmakers, Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., told reporters that White House officials seemed “well on their way” to winning consensus for a plan that would unite Republicans on the contentious issue. But he added, “Whether it will or not, I don’t know.”

Synagogue terrorism suspect pleads not guilty to hate crimes

SAN DIEGO (AP) — The man suspected of killing a woman in a shooting at a Southern California synagogue pleaded not guilty to federal hate crime charges Tuesday.

John T. Earnest spoke twice during the brief hearing — to acknowledge his name and to say he agreed with his court-appointed attorney’s decision against seeking bail.

Earnest, 19, is charged with bursting into the Chabad of Poway synagogue on April 27 and opening fire with an assault rifle, killing one and injuring three.

Russian embassy in London urges publication of Salisbury probe findings

389 registered Afghan families repatriated to Afghanistan: UNHCR

ISLAMABAD, May 14 (APP): United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has voluntary repatriated 389 registered Afghan families comprising 1,528 individuals to Afghanistan from Pakistan after the winter break, resumed in March 1.

According to the UNHCR report issued here on Tuesday, the voluntary repatriation operation had been suspended for the winter period from December 1, 2018 until February 28, this year.

Out of the 1,528 refugees, 1,485 were entitled for cash assistance as remaining 43 had received assistance in the past.

Muzaffarnagar riots: Victim's family demand arrest of all accused

Muzaffarnagar, May 14; PTI/GANASHAKTI: The family of one of the youths whose death sparked the 2013 Muzaffarnagar riots demanded on Tuesday that the police arrest all the accused and implement a court order to attach the properties.

Residents of the Kawal village in Jansath area met the Muzaffarnagar senior superintendent of police and demanded the arrest of all the six accused in connection with the death of Shahnawaz.

Led by his father, the residents demanded that the property of the accused be attached as directed by a court.

India: Seven-yr-old allegedly raped, killed in UP

Lakhimpur Kheri, May 13 (UP) A seven-year-old girl was killed after allegedly being raped Monday in a village here, police said.

The body of the victim was recovered in the morning and a case was registered against a man,

Deputy Superindent of Police (DSP) Vijay Anand told reporters.

The DSP said the accused was arrested and confessed to committing the crime.

He added the body has been sent for post-mortem and an investigation was on.

India: Police constable's wife raped in Rajasthan

Jaipur, May 14 (PTI) A police constable's wife was allegedly raped by a man in Dungarpur district of Rajasthan, police said Tuesday.

The woman alleged that the accused Suresh clicked objectionable pictures of her and was blackmailing and raping her for the last four months, SHO of Kotwali Police Station Chandman said.

The woman and the accused were known to each other.

A case was lodged on Monday and a hunt launched for the accused.

India: Woman raped at hospital in Mumbai

Mumbai, May 14 (PTI) A 37-year-old woman was allegedly raped at a civic-run hospital here by a man on the pretext of helping her fill a fee concession form, a police official said on Tuesday.

The accused, Deepak Annappa Kunchukurve, 31, a resident of Dharavi area here, has been arrested, he said.

The alleged incident took place last Friday on the fifth floor of the Sion Hospital building, he said.
