US seeking contact with Palestinians

12 May 2019; MEMO: Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad Al-Maliki yesterday revealed that US officials have sent messages that they want to resume contacts with the Palestinian Authority (PA).

However, Al-Maliki said that there has been no contact with the US Administration, stressing that any contact must by proceeded by US recognition of East Jerusalem as the capital of Palestine, Al-Wattan Voice reported yesterday.

Pakistan PM slams hotel attack as bid to damage economy

12 May 2019; AFP: An attack on a luxury hotel in the southwestern city of Gwadar was a bid to "sabotage prosperity", Pakistani prime minister Imran Khan said Sunday, as police confirmed all the attackers had been killed.

At least one person was shot dead Saturday after gunmen stormed a luxury hotel in the southwestern Pakistani city of Gwadar, the centrepiece of a multi-billion dollar Chinese infrastructure project.

Maduro Thanks Americans for Protectng Venezuelan Embassy

Caracas, May 10 (Prensa Latina) President Nicolas Maduro on Friday thanked the U.S. citizens who protect the see of the Venezuelan embassy in Washington and face aggressions from authorities of this country.

Through Twitter, the head of state assured that he admired the solidarity of the U.S. social movements that reject the interventionist actions of the United States against the Bolivarian territory.

Syrian army reaches Idlib border - TV

MOSCOW, May 11. /TASS/: The Syrian military forces have liberated five settlements in the northwest of Syria from terrorists on Saturday, reaching the administrative border between the provinces of Idlib and Hama, the Al Mayadeen TV channel informed.

According to the channel, the Syrian fighters had managed to destroy a command center and several warehouses belonging to the Jabhat al-Nusra terror group (outlawed in Russia).

2 Kashmiri killed by Indian security forces in Indian administered Kashmir

Srinagar, May 12: Two Kashmiris have been killed in an alleged encounter with Indian security forces in Shopian district, an Indian army official said.

The Indian security forces' spokesman alleged that a cordon and search operation in Hindsitapur area of Shopian district in south Kashmir was conducted following specific information about the presence of Kashmiri separatists there.

Time magazine calls Modi ‘India’s divider-in-chief’

NEW YORK, May 11 (APP): The mass-circulation Time magazine has featured Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi as India’s “divider-in-chief” on the cover of its international editions, as the country enters the final phase of the general election.

But Time’s cover of its U.S. edition is devoted to US Senator Elizabeth Warren, one of the women candidates for the Democratic party’s presidential nomination.

Pakistan, China working to resolve issue of marriages of Pakistani women

ISLAMABAD, May 12 (APP): Pakistan and China are working closely to resolve the issue of marriages of Pakistani women and human trafficking by some Chinese nationals.

This was stated by Foreign Office spokesperson Dr. Muhammad Faisal in a statement issued here on Sunday.

He said that the relevant authorities from both Governments are in close contact on this issue.

At least 13 militants killed in S. Afghan clashes

KABUL, May 12 (Xinhua): At least 13 Taliban militants were killed after clashes erupted between police and militants in Afghanistan's southern province of Kandahar on Saturday, Ministry of Interior Affairs said Sunday.

"Afghan National Police came in contact with militants in Nadir Khan village, Maruf district, Kandahar province; the clashes left 13 militants dead and nine others wounded," the ministry said in a statement.

There were no casualties on the side of national police, the statement added.

Cubans furious at growing U.S. hostility

HAVANA, May 12 (Xinhua): Although Cuba has lived for more than half a century under a U.S. blockade, Washington's move to activate Title III of the Helms-Burton Act stirred up fresh resentment among citizens of the Caribbean country.

The controversial act allows U.S. nationals to file lawsuits over properties nationalized or confiscated by the Cuban government after the revolution.

Utah holds exhibition to honor Chinese railroad workers' contribution

SALT LAKE CITY, the United States, May 11 (Xinhua): A photo exhibition is held in the western American state of Utah throughout May to commemorate thousands of Chinese workers' contributions to building the first U.S. transcontinental railroad.

The bilingual photography exhibition, curated by Stanford University and featuring the stories of the Chinese rail workers during the construction of the railroad in 1860s, runs from May 1 to 31 in Park City near Salt Lake City. It also travels to other parts of Utah.
